Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not sure about that. Shearer was an incredible striker.

Suarez should've had a Ballon d or with Barca. That last season with Liverpool he almost single-handedly dragged a not very good team led by an OK manager to a league title. 31 league goals and 12 assists in 33 games despite not being on penalties. Insane.*

His peak was the best I've ever seen in terms of just being a one-man wrecking ball. Kane's ridiculously consistent though and has the best Premier League legacy because he's been doing it since a pretty young age and is still going strong.

*Also 40 goals 16 assists in 35 La Liga games at his peak, and 8 in 3 in the CL. That's the season he was Ballon d'Or worthy.

IN A HURRY, HARRY?

Why is Harry Kane’s free kick record so bad? Pundits come up with bizarre golf theory as shocking stats revealed

)
PUNDITS have come up with a bizarre golf theory to question why Tottenham star Harry Kane's free-kick record is so bad.
The 29-year-old only has one goal from a free-kick from 56 attempts in 312 Premier League appearances.

That's a success rate of just 1.78 per cent, according to Opta.

Despite this, he's Spurs' free-kick taker, stepping up from anywhere around the 18-yard box with a realistic chance of a shot on goal.

Ex-footballers Jason Cundy and Jamie O'Hara questioned why Kane is so poor from free-kicks despite his ruthlessness in front of goal.

O'Hara's main explanation is that Kane is an instinct player.

But when taking free-kicks, Kane has more time to think about where he wants to place his shot, which doesn't work out quite so well for him.

O'Hara said on talkSPORT: "Why is he [Kane] so bad a free-kicks though? I've got a philosophy around why he's so bad at free-kicks.

"Harry Kane, when you watch him play, everything is instinct. You know, he's got instinct. Striker's instinct. His first touch.

"Everything is about his brain moving quickly. When he takes free-kicks, he's got a moment to set himself, he's got time, he thinks about it, he has to think about the technique."
But former Chelsea and Tottenham ace Cundy has questioned why Kane's so bad with free-kicks when he's good at golf, where both balls are hit from a stationary position.

Cundy said: "Is he any good at golf?"

Kane is a good golfer and has taken part in an event called Icons Series, featuring sports stars from around the world.

Cundy continued: "Well then, what's the difference? Because the ball's still.

"Here's the thing about golf, right. So a moving ball, yes it comes at you, you can time it.

"Golf, the ball doesn't move. The ball doesn't move, it's there. The ball's not going anywhere. It's going to stay there, 'just hit me'."

Cunded concluded: "Set-pieces outside the box, he can't strike it over a wall.

"You're talking about going over a wall or around the wall.

"Unless I'm wrong, is there a wall in a penalty? Is there a wall in a penalty or not, or am I going crazy?"

O'Hara said: "He has got to be the worst-best free-kick taker ever.

"He's classed as the best free-kick taker in Spurs' team because he's always taking free-kicks. He's the worst free-kick taker I've ever seen."

Kane's woes from free-kicks hasn't stopped him from becoming Spurs' joint-top scorer in the club's history.

The England captain's winner over Fulham on Monday was goal No266 for Spurs, drawing level with the late, great Jimmy Greaves.

It was also Kane's 199th Prem goal in just 312 appearances.

I think Suarez was an incredible talent, but I remember peak Shearer and he was a monster.

Southampton have a pretty great record when it comes to spotting talent.

Must they cash in as much as possible on fucking everything?

£10 magazine, likely a massive profit margin.

You can take the man out of Mister Byrite but you can’t take Mister Byrite out of Levy

Well I shall get it, as it won't have references to doing the gooners a favour and how he hasn't got a trophy!!

There will be players who have a sensational season or two, knocking them in for fun, either because they've hit a patch of impressive form, or they are surrounded with an incredible team. The true masters do it season after season, and make stuff happen for others.

Other teams like to hate Kane but over the years he's had some shite around him but has continued to perform, usually whilst people are writing him off. Shearer also played under managers who were known for 'however many you score, we'll score one more', which helps to rack up your tally.

I can see Kane scoring 18-22 goals for the next three seasons, so Shearer's record is there for the taking. The reality of him staying with us, is his career will likely last longer than another club, he might only get two seasons somewhere else before they move him on.

I've just had an incredible thought.

If City get punished and the punishment is their titles are awarded to the next team, we should be pushing the PL to look at Chelsea. Who we finished runner up to. Apply the same logic, we get their title and Harry hasn't wasted his career!

Perfect logic IMO

I look forward to our honorary win in 10 years time. Do you think we’d still do the open top bus parade?
