Dropping the England captain is cutting your nose to spite your face. It will also undermine the (new) manager who would surely pick him. It also sends a message to other players that we might want to sign in how we treat players. It’s not exactly as if Danny is regarded as ‘Employer Of The Month’.
I do think it would be preferable to get in an alternate striker this year although, if Harry stays, I don’t know that ENIC will make those kind of funds available. If that is the case though, we could perhaps leverage a threat of rotating him or, with the manager’s buy-in, play him as a no 10 which may slow down his quest. Both alternatives are pretty rotten though.
