Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How many times in the last decade have you heard people talk about Alan Shearer's PL goal scoring record?......Virtually every week

How many times in the same period have you heard people talk about the PL he won?......Virtually never
I feel like records only get activated in the public conscience when someone gets close to breaking them. Who'd ever heard of Dixie Dean before this season? So yea, you can be remembered for a long time, but you will probably be remembered most when your record is in danger. And it could be broken, so then what? It's such a weird discussion anyway. Is it just cope by Spurs fan to soften the reality that Kane hasn't / probably won't win a trophy with us.

I would also like to add to this that the footballing landscape in 20 years could have completely changed. The Saudis may buy every team and ground and have every brick transported over. The Premier League may not even exist and whatever happened in football before the new format is completely forgotten (like it was with the Premier League)

They have a habit of relenting and paying the (over the top) asking price for players too. That reported £200m Levy is asking for is ridiculous, but it gets done for anything over £100m in my opinion.

Honestly, this might just end up being the best thing for us, and avoids tarnishing Kane's legacy.
100 million quid or Harry Kane for one more season?

It's the money of course, we can buy two more N'Dombeles

Why would Kane really care so much about the EPL scoring record?
Shearer is the all-time top-scorer by default ...and that's simply because they changed the name from First Division to EPL. And reduced the number of teams. Players like Dixie Dean, Jimmy Greaves and Arthur Rowe have scored many more top-division goals than Shearer and more than Kane will score...
I think Kane rather want to challenge for CL & domestic league title than be part "hundredth" rebuilding project under Levy. Levy can't fool him this time (I think).
Personally I think he really wants that record. He has chased them all through his career and although there are higher scorers out there, all the media bang on about is Shearer's PL goal scoring record.

He's got a young family and another kid on the way, does he want the disruption of moving? Lots of people do it but I get the feeling he is a family man and that means a lot to him. That could also be an issue with Manchester.
However if he wants to win things, he's got a far better chance in Madrid than at Utd.

To be honest, I've not got a clue. I just hope he publically declares his love for Spurs, signs on for the rest of his career and tells the Mancs to fuck off.

I can't understand the importance of the PL scoring record V trophies.

Imagine Kane @ 40 no trophies but PL record. What a big deal!!!

He is got England and Spurs record, for now.

Remember more importantly records are there to be broken. Trophies stay forever.

There is trophy for winning league titles and cups, there is even trophy for highest scorer in a season the golden boot but there is no trophy for records.
Gooner detector blinkning red here!!

To be fair, I'll take the money and avoiding him going for free to another English team allllll day long.
Like you said, it might be the best option for everybody. Do you think he can justify it to himself too, in a way he would be doing us a favour by potentially leaving us a stack of cash to help rebuild. Kane leaving is awful, but the lack of toxicity over the issue is telling and I think most Spurs fans would wish him the best (if he went abroad).
