Ex-Spurs Player Harry Winks

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Imagine thinking Winks should be our starting playmaker in a Top 4 Conte team because he wasn’t absolute dog-shit for 2 games in a row now and played a pass forward to Kane

Levy licking his chops this Jan for the gullible fans

On current form, whilst we still aren't able to sign anyone just yet, I'd quite like to see Winks and Skipp in midfield in the 343. He deserves a start in that system I think.

I'm hoping we can sign Brozovic or someone like that and have Winks as the backup to that player, and play 352 more often than not. Although I think we need upgraded wing-backs to make the 352 really work.

I would fucking love to see a midfield of Winks and Skipp (if I'm really honest I'd like to see either partnered with a lung-busting, aggressive, skilful silky ball carrier but going along the journey Conte is taking us for now) just to see if it's any good. I prefer BOTH of them to PEH who I think is OK but without a doubt is our most overrated player in the squad.

Most passes completed (71)
Most attacking-third passes completed (34)
Most chances created (3)
Joint-most crosses completed (3)
92.2% pass accuracy

SEELLLLLLLLLLLLL
:memelol:

Only one of those stats even counts as anything positive (Most chances created), the others are completely irrelevant without context, especially with a player that is known for passing sideways and backwards.

Regardless, he had a good game but the 35 previous shit ones since Madrid away in 1984 are the exact reason why we're in the position we are; because we value one good performance higher than we should. Winks wouldn't get in any top 4 team but all of a sudden he's good enough for us because of today. Cool.

That vid shows exactly what is expected from a player that plays in that position. Sows it being executed perfectly.
Him and Pierre were being bossed before the red, they had no authority on the game at all and once they were down to 10 , what you expect from your central midfielder changes. He didn't do enough to open up southampton in the second half, who just sat back and let us have the ball. He was better than Hojbjerg today but that's not saying much, this area of the pitch is our biggest cause for concern imo

Here is some context for you - Winks pre-Dinosaur was Europe's most progressive U23 passer.

The role he plays in requires the ball to be moved sideways and backwards to move the oppo around, set the tempo of the game.

Under Conte, I think we'll see him play many verticle balls like he did today to beat an oppo who press us aggressively. Also under Conte a lot of his game plan is to instruct his players to reset play if the ball can't be advanced in key areas by going backwards, the aim is to draw oppo onto us to create space to play into, usually with a verticle pass or one out to the FB's.

It's almost like Jose and Nuno were brilliant managers, best blame the individual players for how shit we've been set up because it's down to them to set up so passively despite both managers having a worldwide reputation for negative, passive football.

You’re wasting your time - it’s like reading the Athletic blog - completely pointless

HE WAS OUR BEST PLAYER TODAY! (Sanchez was quite good too but had little to do for most of it).

Our problem was almost certainly dictated by playing two days ago, despite Southampton pressing us very aggressively they didn't create an awful lot, can only speculate but they're yet to play a single game this season where they've played well for 90mins, always blowing themselves out in the first half, then 2nd half they always concede, so was fully expecting us to go up a gear as their press dropped off.

Winks wasn't bossed!!! Southampton pressed us across the park, we lost possession across the entire team (EXCEPT Winks), no other player was able to live with their press, this is where we weren't competing, Kane and Son were unable to keep the ball (also as a result of other players being pressed and therefore playing shit balls up to them (and to others).

ah yea youre right. never mind then, only one major unforced fuck up that should of resulted in a goal....lets keep little tiddly winks around even though hes clearly way out of his depth, dont matter if hes not good enough as results dont matter.

missing a pen is not the same as the fuckup winks done you do realise that? also salah has bundles of cash in the bank..winks is bankrupt

If Winks can play like he has been, he would be great as a squad player for a creative midfielder role. We obviously still need a starting quality one since ndombele and lo Celso are essentially useless for that.

Ideal midfield:

-----new world class creative mid/winks
---skipp/hoj--new excellent box to box/dele

Note, two new midfielders replacony ndombele and lo Celso. Hardly asking for much Don Levy.
