Winks playing ok instead of shit isn’t a reason to build our midfield around him.

He was our best player vs Southampton and our best player vs Liverpool too, so all this 'just because he was okay' stuff is nonsense, he was very good. It's okay to admit when a player you don't fancy actually has a great game.

Does this mean he's now good enough? Probably not, in general I favour years of evidence vs a few great performances, even if he was playing under the 'wrong' managers. End of the day it's up to Conte, if he rates him then he'll play him regardless of whether some fans think Winks is a fraud or not.

He has improved leaps and bounds confidence wise.

I'm going to hold my reservations on Winks until (and this is a big UNTIL) he's in contention for the England squad again.

Same can be said for Dier and Dele.

I mean .. if he continues to put in performances like he did vs Southampton and Liverpool, then I'd have no issue whatsoever with him continuing to play .. would you?

If he, as expected, drops off from that then Conte will obviously demand reinforcements, he almost certainly will do regardless, I don't buy for a second he doesn't want to improve us. But currently Winks is a player earning his place in the side, Conte is being fully justifed in starting him.

Good article, but it always boils down to the same with Tottenham players.

It's up to the players to prove themselves to the manager, not the other way around.

Personally, I have a bit of a soft spot for Winks though. Hasn't been the same since that injury a few years back but am astounded with the progression he has made under Conte. Love the fact that Conte seems to have found his confidence button and gave it a good old push.
