Ex-Spurs Player Harry Winks

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Like I said earlier he’s not many options other than to start the little rat 🐀

Which answers the second part

Our midfield is shite apart from Skipp and needs upgrading

Yeah see, this is why I don't think you can have a balanced perspective at all. You obviously hold a grudge against the player, or else why call him that?

Whether you think he's good enough or not, he's putting in a shift when he plays and is offering something to the team. He's not someone who cost us ludicrous amounts of money and he's not a huge earner, he just wanted opportunities and is taking them currently.

It's very strange to me that he seems to attract more hate than someone like Ndombele who has cost the club eye watering amounts of money and seemingly can't even be bothered to put in enough effort on the training ground to get ahead of this player you think is so shit.

BTW if you look around at how journalists rated his performances, you'll see a lot of praise, so if you think he still played shit then maybe time to analyse your own perspective on the way he plays. Because a majority of neutrals appear to think he did very well.

I don’t give a fuck what a few journos say

I think he’s shit as do quite a few others

He’s one of the first I’d ship out after Lo Celso

And I call him a rat because of him whining to the press about not being selected

Don’t bother asking for links because I can’t be arsed

You disagree and think that he’s the Hemel Pirlo

Fine and you’re entitled to your opinion but don’t expect many to agree with you

Good night
Hard days shopping ahead tomorrow

Plenty seem to, honestly. It seems to just be you and a few others who still think he's playing shit and don't want to praise him.

And I don't think he's anything other than a player currently earning his place. Nothing more or less.

Night.

Got to be honest, he’s done ok the past few games. He looks more assured on the ball and he’s certainly trying to be more aggressive with his passing. I still think he’s fundamentally a few technical levels below what we need but if Conte can fashion an unfussy 6 type player out of him to make up the squad, then so be it.

I’ll never forget that Everton cameo though. Brings a tear to my eye.

It's not naive to just be able to recognise when a player is doing good stuff regardless of his name. You're just blinded by the fact its Winks, whereas I don't give a shit what the name is on the back of shirt, I'm just seeing a midfielder who is putting in 8/10 performances right now, and that's obviously good enough for him to be playing.

You're acting like I'm hyping him up or pretending he's now the answer to all our problems, when all I'm saying is a player who is performing well is .. performing well. I leave whether he needs to be upgraded up to Conte.
It is naive because when Winks and Sissoko got us 4th and to a CL Final under Poch, he was still seen as surplus to requirements and called champo.

That was over a season.

But two decent games in the two and a half years since, despite both still being littered with mistakes, and he deserves a chance to prove himself

Our team has regressed, that’s a clue as to why you think Winks (playing worse than he was in 2019) is suddenly evolving.

That’s naive

Best players vs Pool and Saints apparently. On FIFA perhaps.

LMFAO - no wonder our fans are so deluded and expect Conte to challenge with these cloggers

Levy is having the best wank ever

Winks has done well in the last 2 games but over a season of regular football I think you'd see him revert back to being "safe".
Nothing would please me more than seeing any of our players play well, especially home grown talent, there is something pleasing about seeing a player coming from the youth set up to become a top top player, unfortunately its very rare.

He doesn't have to start him. Nor does he have to single him out for praise, which I doubt he would do if he thought he was a useless player.

Compared to our other midfielders, and the midfielders of the teams we've faced.

you realise that you are arguing/debating with people that don't know the difference between a good footballer and a ham sandwich - don't you?
These type of posters set their stall out and despite any evidence to the contrary will swear black is white and vice versa, if that is what they have stated from their platform of ignorance, and often stupidity.

I tried everything in the past from logic, argument and eventually ridicule - and at that point you realise that it is ridiculous and tiresome to continue

people that have to resort to insults, schoolboy terminology and hate campaigns are not worth the kind of detritus that you would scrape from your shoes. Use ignore and talk to adults and people that are either ignorant and enthusiastic to learn, or just have a reasonable level of knowledge of what it takes to be a professional footballer and play the game.

Do you not see that he is now being encouraged to play the game he is most suited to?
I haven't seen anyone on here who has said he is Messi/Pirlo standard
Just a handful of people who recognise why he appears to be poor, because he has been shoehorned into playing roles that are not part of his footballing DNA.

At best he is is going to be a useful sub in a top team, or a good player in a mid table team. if he was a top player managers wouldn't piss about getting him to play unfamiliar roles that he's not suited for.

Asking Winks to play at CM is a position unsuited for him

I would like to praise him but I can’t

A slight improvement under Conte but always liable to fuck up as he did against Soton so he isn’t at the level we require

Sanchez and Dier are the same

Totally unreliable

Soton goal could have been prevented had WP been marked but Winks chose not to and just pointed
No one else bothered either

That was entirely his choice to pass the ball 2 foot away instead of trying to be progressive, footballers do things by instinct usually ,very rarely do they completely change the way they do things especially at 26. but I do get your drift.

Players of his size can 100% be successful midfielders in any league (as others have mentioned, Modric, but also David Silva routinely taking the piss out of PL midfields) but you do need to be exceptional technically if you don't have the physicality. And as you just posted, you have to be a player who has worked out what he wants to do with the ball before it even comes to them. At that point it doesn't matter if you're a unit or not, because you've passed the ball before anyone even gets near you.

Modric was a joy to watch in that respect.
You missed out Kante. He’s like having two players in the midfield and he’s hardly built like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Comparing Winks those players is laughable - please have a day off

Yeah, long term I fully expect us to replace him in the lineup .. I don't know why people seem to be scared or annoyed by a fictional scenario in which Winks continues to play well and apparently Conte is so enamoured we sign nobody.
I think its because people feel like theyve seen enough of winks to know that he isnt a top 4 material player. And if we sign nobody , the little new manager bounce might disappear and we will go sliding down the table again and in the end we lose Conte as well. They are scared because its a scary thought.

Why not just get a really good player who with Conte could be even better. We really have to buy some CMs and get rid of our underperforming ones especially Locelso, Dele, Hojberg and Ndombele too if hes not going tobe played.
