We will sign a CM though. Even if Winks continues to play like this, it’s almost certain Conte will want other players in midfield. Winks doing well for a while isn’t going to convince him that’s enough at all, all it will mean is he’ll be considered useful to the squad.

Guys like GLC and Ndombele are the ones I’m more worried about us selling & replacing. They’re the ones saddling us with big wages and offering LESS than Winks on the field. They may be more talented, but they’re either injured 90% of the time, or showing Conte no desire to win a place.

They’re the ones deserving of major criticism. Not the squad player on low wages (comparatively) who cost us nothing. Not the player who HAS earned Conte’s trust so far and is contributing.

That ball watching from Winks was quite rubbish for their goal. He coudl see it all happening in front of his eyes but just stood there, not even trying to close down their player.

And the other time when he gave the ball away with poor dribbling and created for them. But other than that he was better than Hojberg and Dele and some of his forward passes balanced out the defensive fails. Overall okay.

He will always be a defensive liability that he shouldnt be played as part of a CM2. For Winks to be part of our midfield, we have to play 3 CMs and the other two should be Skipp and someone else who we can depend on defensively. Unfortunately we dont have that 3rd player. No wonder we were getting killed by southampton when it was 11 v 11.

I don't think there's a single Spurs fan that doesn't want us to buy a top class CM to accompany Skipp.

...And similarly (despite the resident bullshit merchants), I don't see a single person saying they think Winks should be first XI come next season.

NOBODY is saying we don't need new players or he's now good enough to be a starter for years to come, I don't know how your brain processes 'Winks is playing well, he deserves praise for these performances' and then decides this means people think he should start FOREVER AND EVER.

As usual you're inventing people's arguments because the actual points they are making are entirely rational, so you have to pretend they're saying something else. Winks doing well and us needing midfielders are two opinions which can quite happily co-exist.

They know nothing actually being said is unreasonable at all, so they're forced to invent narratives. Wait for the second Winks has a bad performance and they'll flood in saying 'hurr durr I thought he was meant to be world class' as if anyone in here has ever claimed anything close to it.

What Winks is proving right now is that he's not a priority to move on. He's HG and doing a job. Guys like Ndombele and GLC are the absolute priorities to sell and then bring in reinforcements, as they're providing nothing to the team, at a huge net loss in terms of wages.

I don't know why this is hard for people to see. Winks is a squad player who currently isn't a priority to upgrade. The guys who should be starting provide nothing, so let's work on replacing those in the team, shall we?
 
I’ve been a harsh critic of Winks in the past, but credit where it’s due as he’s looked better recently. If he maintains this form and confidence then he might be a useful squad player, but if we get a good offer for him then he can go.

So .. that person is saying he thinks Winks might suit Conte's setup? Is he saying Conte doesn't need signings? Is he saying that means Winks is a guaranteed starter? Or is he just saying Winks is a player who might function well under the new manager?

And I don't have to assume anything .. I know for a fact you make stuff up. Lots of people know you do it, you invent arguments people haven't made to try and invalidate their position. You don't argue the actual points they're making.

And you bringing out fence sitting again? You realise not everything has to be polarised, right? He's a player I don't think is good enough long term, but one doing a solid job in the short term and who could be a useful squad player going forward. I don't need to call him shit and say his performances aren't even good just so my opinion is eDgY enough for you.

He played better than Alli in both games, not one. In the second game he was MUCH better. He fits a purpose in a Conte team much better than Alli does from what I've seen thus far. If someone else wants to think otherwise that's fine.

It's really not hard to work out.

He's doing well but evidence across his career says these performances may not be sustainable over a longer period, so if we can get an inflated fee now then selling might be a good idea, if the club are able to re-invest.

See? Not hard to justify the logic at all.

I didnt say anyone wants us to not buy topclass CM. Just answering the other guys question why people are scared of us not buying anyone . Theres definite reason to be scared if we dont.

For me Hojberg doesnt add much to the team at all. Luckily hes managed a couple of goals here and there, so it covers up the rest of his game, but I am not a fan. No problem with you finding him useful though.

Yes it is, because if he’s turning it around and deserves a chance as has been claimed, then the logic is that he…….deserves a chance.

What you’re basically doing is agreeing with the people who are saying this “renaissance” talk is a load of nonsense, Winks isn’t very good and despite playing better than shit, we need to upgrade him
