100%. Not sure why people are trying to completely miss the fact that he’s been significantly underperforming. 1 goal over the last 11 games? Maybe he needs to ride the bench a bit, recover and let others who’ve been playing well step in. Even Son would tell you he needs to do much better. People get so triggered on here.

It wasn’t that long ago where Son wasn’t always a sure starter AND we were near the top of the tables. Our success isn’t contingent on Son.
I do find it a bit annoying the preferential treatment that Jose seems to give him. There are definitely matches in those 11 where he could have been on the bench or subbed out in the 60-70min.

I’d love to see Dele and Bergjwin get some minutes in the left wing spot. Instead, they both are competing for positions where with 3-4 other players as options, whereas as Son is the only option on the left. That made sense the first 15 PL when Son was scoring in bunches, but more competition for the LW would do good for both the team and the players.

He's still not at his best but he's been much better the last 3 or 4 games than he was the previous 2 months. Definitely suffering in confidence in front of goal atm but he's trying to create now instead of just passing the ball off quickly. He's assisting instead of scoring now that's all. As long as he's contributing to the side I'm happy.

Sonny has been racking up the assists through out his dry spell. We can’t expect him to score them all and who cares as long as he is making goal contributions.

He can’t score them all and he’s linking up well with the rest of the team when we go forward, what’s not to like?

Not looking too threatening lately but still working hard and chipping in with assists.

We don't really have anyone who can come in on the left and contribute more so I can see why Jose always plays him.

Just frustrating we never seem to have everyone firing at the same time.

He’s sucking in the defenders at the moment and acting as a decoy while Bale becomes open on the other end.

At some point the opposition defenders will start trying to focus on Bale as well and Son will find himself unmarked again.

As long as one of the front 3 is scoring well it’s not a problem.

This.
I couldn’t even give a shit if Hugo was whacking them in with his cock as long as we’re winning games

It’s not surprising Son’s assists have suddenly increased recently.

As he’s been marked out he’s finding open teammates, and by becoming a provider he’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing, this is what a well functioning attacking players do.

If he keeps doing this the opposition’s defenders will shift their focus on Bale, and Son will become free again to score.

I am not worried about Son, he’s one of the last players we have to worry about, like Harry.

The upside of keeping him is that, besides retaining the services of a borderline world class wing-forward and cherished club icon, we can postpone getting another first team LW for another three seasons and make that position our main xfer target during that window. Funds can instead be spent on defense and CM, where we desperately need help. It's not all bad either way, but before doing anything radical, Daniel/The Club needs to be decisive and have a clear vision of where the team is headed. That clarity is not here yet though as with our recent uptick in form the jury is still very much out on Jose, with Levy probably hoping to pull a rabbit out of his hat with a late Jose turnaround.
Ther argument about funds is non existent as the fund to buy Son's replacement would come from the sale of Son himself. Like in the scenario I gave: selling Son for £80m lets us buy his younger replacement for £50m and a second player (e.g. RB or CB) for the remaining £30m. This has nothing to do with Jose or any manager, but that this is the best way to manage a club with limited funds.

As Son ages, he will only decline further from his current form. Soon he will not be any better than just another good player. It is an inevitable fact of life. As his abilities declines, so will his market value and by then we can only rue not selling him when we had the chance. Until we have the funds to compete with the bigger clubs, we should be selling our players when they reach peak value to maximize our returns.

An example of holding on to a player for too long was what happened with DDG at United. A few years ago, they had the opportunity of selling him to madrid and other clubs but instead gave him an expensive contract renewal. Now that he has declined, they will likely be stuck with having the highest paid GK as a mere backup for the next 3 seasons. United can afford to make such mistakes, we cannot.

Not too worrried about goals and assists over a short period. You need to judge the numbers over the long-run to get a real picture anyway.

He's working hard, contributing to the team and we're scoring goals in which he's involved. I'm sure he's had periods where he's scored a run of goals without assists.

He's a top player and if you look at his numbers over the last 3-4 years they back that up.

yeah let’s just sell our best players as they peak and make the task of actually winning a trophy exponentially harder.

yeah no problem mate. Great input

Well at least we're back on topic but really it's painfully obvious that some on here really really don't like Son and want him out. I'm not sure why though especially as some of these same people extol the virtues of far inferior players such as Lucas and Lamela.

People having a go at Son for only assisting now instead of scoring. We did sign him to be winger, he's only been moved centrally because we've had to rely on him when Kane is out injured.

He's having a great season and we should do everything we can to keep hold of him.

As a player that primarily relies on his pace, Son is very vulnerable to a steep decline within 1-2 years. 29-30 seems to be the age where father time becomes visible for most wingers. Look what happened to Hazard...
