How do you grade our transfer window?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A to F grade how do you see our business?
What did we get right?
What did we get wrong?
What other clubs transfers stick out as noteworthy?

For me I'd give our window a B-

We did a few right I feel. Letting Walker go for big money was ultimately right, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and that shows we adequately replaced him, had we not then getting rid of him would have been wrong. Arguably upgraded on him so well done.
Letting Wimmer leave was correct, needs regular football for the World Cup and he never complained so wish him all the best, to bring in Sanchez for him is good business. Steep price but we've bought quality. Loaning CCV and Onomah was needed, sitting on our bench had got to the point where it was no longer beneficial for them or us.
Loved getting Llorente, let's face it Janssen was very underwhelming so getting a backup striker that not only can score in this league, has the experience of winning trophies but also is a genuine plan b in the same vein as Giroud. Someone to throw on late if in need of a goal. Can we play both up front?

What we didn't do well which stops the A/A+ grade is that we should have loaned Janssen as he's got a long season now ahead of him with possibly even less opportunities. Didn't get that extra body in midfield, shame that Gomes/Barkley didn't eventuate as we could have used that extra player in there. Winks should benefit from this and suspect we'll get Barkley very cheap.

As for other clubs, Woolwich's ineptness stands out. Enjoy mediocrity cunts. Other than that the club that stands out to me is Milan, one of the historical big boys of Europe down on their luck, have just used this window well with Bonucci, Silva, Kessie, Hakan, Biglia, Rodriguez, Conti, Musacchio, Kalinic and Borini. Should win Europa League imo.

B - totally agree
Sanchez will be top CB in the league in a couple years
Airier could (and hopefully) will be top WB in the league
I wish Janssen agreed to go on loan, he's so young still, if he went somewhere and played 20 games this season and managed 8-10goals that would give him so much confidence. Can't see him playing past early cup games unless 4-4-2 come back in town with Llorente & Janssen but that's highly unlikely
I like Llorente signing, yes he's old, but he's a legit goal scorer, I was really hoping to sign Chicharito before he went to spam but Llorente offers a threat and showed he can cope with the premier league
As many have said if we had just signed midfielder it would have been a perfect transfer window. Net spend was only like 15m? so take that up to 40-50m and sign Gomez/Mahrez! What the fuck happened to him btw has there been any news!? But if Lamella comes back and stays fit he will be like a new signing so who knows!

C+ to B-

Essentials: replaced Walker well but did not resolve the AM/pace depth issue in our attacking midfield

Non-essentials: brilliant signing of Sanchez and smart Redknapp style signing of Lorente.

Had we got a decent AM I would have gone for B+ or A

D

This window has been a fucking waste of opportunity to strengthen ourselves and compete for CL and PL.

Positives
- first choice RB upgraded
- CB cover/options upgraded
- cover CF upgraded

Negatives
-We desperately needed an injection of pace, creativity and dynamism in final 3rd. We should have signed at least one winger and AM
-failure to shift remaining deadwoods at the club like Sissoko, Janssen and Nkoudou.

Expectations this season
-finish bottom of the group in CL
-languishing in upper midtable by December.

B+

Before agent fees etc. we made £2.65M, offloaded a want-away distraction and likely upgraded on him. Offloaded a CB below our current level and definitely upgraded him. Addressed the issue of goals when Kane is resting or just having an off day with a proven PL goal-scorer.

I don't see the issues in midfield that seem to be quoting. Sanchez allows Dier to play in midfield more, so with Wanyama-Dembele/Dier-Winks we're as strong there as you could be without expecting someone to sit in the stands 70% of the time (which would have been Winks, and that would have stunted his development). Llorente coming in allows Son to focus more as an AM than a AM/reserve CF. Eriksen/Dele/Son/Sissoko/Lamela when he returns/GKN - that's about as deep as you can go if you're going to play a 3-4-3 as the base formation considering only 2 of those will be in the 11. We can lament the lack of a pacey winger all we want - but this many windows into his regime it's pretty clear that's not the sort of player Poch values. If you think he's wrong, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but that's not blame you can lay anywhere else but in Poch's vision of football.

We're much deeper now, able to deal with a busy fixture calendar better. We squashed the Rose issue and moved on. Kept hold of the rest of our talent as well. Those were the major goals of the window. When you look around, Manchester clubs aside, all of our rivals spent shed loads and arguably got weaker. The Manchester clubs had to go well over £100M+ in this window to strengthen as they have.

If Sissoko comes good this season, as I think he will, then not giving up on him this summer will look a masterstroke and this B+ would become an A.

8 out of 10.
Before the window I was hoping we would purchase a speedy attacker however I was not expecting us to sign a striker so I think we have more options now to influence game outcomes if we are struggling.
Particularly when we have Lamela to come back and Edwards wants to fight for a place too.
Defense is looking extremely good, although I feel a bit for Walker-Peters, MOTM against Newcastle then dropped next game, he might not feature for a while but at least he can learn off Aurier now.

We didn't leave ourselves any shorter then when we went in..

Our third choice goalkeeper had gone back to his parent club so we brought in a third choice goalkeeper who Pochettino knows, who was born in Argentina and will help Foyth get adjusted I am sure.

We sent out Carter-Vickers on loan to get experience in a tough league like the Championship and in turn brought in one of the most highly rated prospects in world football in his position. Someone who WANTED to join us and ultimately CHOSE to play for us over PSG.

We sold Kyle Walker, who ultimately the coach no longer wanted, made £40,000,000+ profit on him whilst bringing in someone who you could argue is on the same level ability wise, just missing out the Premier League experience, for HALF the price.

We sold a fourth choice centre half in Kevin Wimmer, made a £10,000,000+ profit on him and brought in a new first choice centre half (depending on formation), who is one of the best young defenders in the world. Added more pace to our back line with Walker going and Rose being out injured.

We brought in an experienced winner in Fernando Llorente, who will add goals to our team, gives us a genuine plan B, could play up front in a 2 or on his own when needed - someone who has won practically everything and chose to play for us.

We also got rid of a lot of deadwood like N'Jie, Bentaleb and Fazio who weren't going to get any more games here, racking up a total of £26,000,000 in the process.

I would certainly give it a B.

Only thing that would have made it any better was if we had signed a pacy player in attack (Gelson Martins, Bruma, Zaha) in all honesty - but I don't think it's nearly as important as some make out.

You're a proper weapon. I really hope you're a troll otherwise you are totally clueless.

In all seriousness it's Impossible to give a grade until we see how the team operates with the new signings integrated.

What grade would you have given the window when Alli signed. How would that grade have changed now?

Same when we signed Dembele, or Bale. The very definition of slow burners.

What grade would you have given the window when we signed the magnificent 7? How would you grade it in reflection?

No offense but this whole "who won the transfer window?" buisness is a nonsense.

B: Above average to good, improved our overall squad, solid signings. Also kept everyone that we wanted to keep. Happy with the window.

Bottom line, Spurs are better now than they were at the end of last season.

Fuck off with your personal attacks.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. If you disagree with me that's fine but don't come here call people 'clueless' because they view things and analyse differently

:dembelelol:

The whole forum thinks the same, but fair enough. You're the most negative poster I've seen on here, genuinely don't even know why you "support" Spurs.

I wasn't even bothered with your D grade but you saying we'd finish bottom of our Champions League Group and mid-table in the league is laughable.

Hard to tell until we've seen how the new signings play. But it's a B- for me. I agree with what others have said about the quality of the signings. Would be a B+ if we hadn't waited for 3 games to get our guys in. I realise that this is part of getting a good deal, and if Aurier was always top target it was a little out of our hands, but I wish we could start a season for once with more or less the final quad.

Also, call me old fashioned, but I do miss the days of getting once of those WTF world class superstar players. Bit tough now with wages etc. but I do feel that we still have the pull to attract someone in that bracket.

Anyway, back to the thread.

I'd probably give it a B-.

It's always a shame to sell a starting 11 player no matter the circumstances but to get in someone of Aurier's calibre as Walker's replacement is excellent. Effectively swapping Wimmer for Sanchez is an excellent bit of business. It's clear Pochettino wants to go with 5 at the back a lot this season and either he or Eric Dier (or both) don't want Dier at CB in that system anymore.

Very happy with the Llorente purchase also. It's clear that Pochettino doesn't trust Janssen off the bench, so it was imperative we got in a striker that we can use. He's a nice option B to have and hopefully he can help both Kane and Janssen develop. It's nice to see us signing a few players that have won numerous trophies in their career like Llorente and Aurier. Can never have too many winners in your squad.

The reason I wouldn't give an A is simply because we didn't get Barkley or an equivalent. I understand and agree with the reasoning behind not getting Barkley now but think we might be a little short in that area unless Sissoko or GKN make a step up from last season, or Lamela comes back earlier than I expect.

I think there's every chance you might consider Aurier and Sanchez in that world class bracket in the near future. Lets be clear, we were only able to get Aurier (and for that fee) because of his off field issues along with the visa issue. If he hadn't had those, loads of clubs would have been in for him and he almost certainly wouldn't have come to us.

I'm not going to pretend I've watched a lot of Sanchez but a lot of people who have are saying he's one of the best young CBs on the planet. Sure, those two aren't your Neymars or Mbappe's but I'm extremely excited to have signed both.

Upgraded on Walker for half the price we sold him for
Upgraded on Wimmer and Dier at CB

Both these add pace and muscle in defence and both like to attack, so even without that midfielder I think we have added to attack here.
Loosely linked with Gray but didnt see any other AM/wingers linked.

I honestly dont think thats the direction Poch is taking, despite many fans wanting it. We just arent looking there, which makes me hopeful for Lamela and Nkoudou.

Llorente to come in and give us experience and goals. Solid signing.

Foyth hope to see in the cups, and a 3rd choice keeper.....good luck to him seeing the light of day anytime soon though.

Janssen indeed needed that loan, but happy for Wimmer and Onomah.

Got our own youngsters to develop this season, so I for one am much happier at the thought of seeing Winks than Barkley.

A for me

I'd probably go B as well
Although i do think some people are jumping the gun when claiming that Aurier is an upgrade/equal level on Walker, hes clearly a talented player but Walker was huge for us these past couple of years
