Hugo Lloris: Tottenham's Andre Villas-Boas 'astonished' by outcry
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas says he was astonished by the reaction to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris playing on after being knocked unconscious.

The France international, 26, collided with striker Romelu Lukaku during the 0-0 draw with Everton on Sunday.

And Spurs were criticised for allowing him to complete the match.

"I stand by the decision I took and I stand by the decision made by my medical staff. They did everything by the book," said Villas-Boas.

"A couple of people used this as an opportunity to get some publicity. They have no experience on the pitch of these situations.

"It is not comparable to NFL or rugby. It is not comparable to [Chelsea goalkeeper] Petr Cech. It astonishes me that it is trying to be put in the same mode as these situations."

Both the world players' union, Fifpro, and the Professional Footballers' Association have called for the rules to be changedand want players knocked unconscious to leave the field.

Lloris briefly lost consciousness after his collision with Lukaku late on at Goodison Park and was assessed on the pitch before continuing.

Villas-Boas said after the match he believed Lloris looked capable of continuing and the the goalkeeper later underwent a CT scan, showing no signs of concussion.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Portuguese also claimed the collision could have been avoided.

"I don't want to question Lukaku because he is a good young player. But I think he could have jumped over Hugo [Lloris]," he said.

Well said that man :avbfu:

Why is no one lambasting Martinez for allowing Lukaku to carry on after this...
Romelu Lukaku scored the winner in Everton's 3-2 victory at West Ham - but fails to remember netting the goal having getting knocked out.

He can't even remember scoring the goal FFS! What kinda state must he have been in??
I guess 'cos Lukaku "thanks God" for helping him out, then it's all OK.
Therefore it was a FANTASTIC EFFORT for him to carry on... and not CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE by the manager, or anything to do with daring to slate the Coaching or Medical staff who clearly allowed him to play on! 'cos GOD saved him... fine! That's alright then!
I just wish Lloris had come out and thanked GOD earlier, then all this would've been brushed under the carpet! ...'cos you can't argue with GOD!

Hugo didn't thank god. Therefore his concussion was a sin and he should have been subbed.

Martinez on the 'incident'

"I don't think Andre Villas-Boas mentioned there was any intent or any wrongdoing from Romelu, he only mentioned he expected a bit of an apology.

"Obviously we are waiting for Roberto Soldado to apologise to Phil Jagielka, and so we can use the same phone call so we don't have to spend on two phone calls."

His name is Hugo Lloris
He's Tottenham Hotspurs' number one

He's the quickest keeper of his line
He will stop your attacks every time

His balls are made of steel
