416 - Hugo moves into our all-time top 10 appearance makers

Mon 23 May 2022, 22:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris has broken into the top 10 of the Club’s all-time appearance makers.

Making his 416th appearance for the Club on Sunday as he proudly led us back into the Champions League thanks to a commanding 5-0 victory at Norwich City - a result that secured fourth place in the Premier League - that lifted him above John Pratt’s 415 (1969-1980) and into our all-time top 10. Phil Beal (420, 1963-1975) is next in his sights, with Hugo one of only 12 players in the Club’s history to play 400-plus games for us.

It’s been quite a season for our skipper. We ended the season with five clean sheets in our last eight games en-route to fourth, taking him to a personal best of 16 clean sheets for a season. He also completed the Premier League campaign ever-present, playing all of our 38 games to rack up 3,420 minutes, the most in the 2021/22 season alongside Manchester United’s David de Gea.

That’s a feat Hugo, 35, has achieved in back-to-back seasons now, with his current run of 86 successive starts in the Premier League going back to March, 2020. Back in August, he became the first player to reach 300 appearances for us in the Premier League, his record now stretching to 336.

If he plays 38 league games and 6 CL games then he’ll be on 460 at the end of next season. 6th highest ever.

If he signs an extension then I’d he’d get to 4th highest ever.

The guy is a legend.

Hugo will be here for at least a couple more seasons - Getting Forster in is surely a backup . When the time comes to replace we should just splash the cash like Liverpool did with Allison.

The greatest Frenchman to ever live. He was victrious in Russia, unlike that over hyped midget who came back with his tail between his legs after a heavy defeat.

Friedel is a pundit on us tv. He has no special insight as far as I know.

Personally I’d be happy to keep him if he wants to stay on a one or two year deal but equally if he wants to have one last longer contract at Nice (hometown club) in the sun then I’d let him have it too. We can spend big on a replacement.
