Good, that'll keep their mental salaries down.

In what rational world does someone actually earn $75M pa salary for playing games?

That kind of nonsense is why it costs a fortune to watch matches now.

In a world where football clubs gross billions in revenue from their said playing of games. Would you prefer that money goes to the fat cats behind the scenes, or the players who actually entertain us?

The salaries/money in the game are obviously insane at a glance. But footballers are the central part of an industry worth eye watering amounts of money, and are rewarded accordingly.

You're missing the point

The salary is obscene, because the numbers poured into the sport are obscene

The people losing out are the spectators, the real fans, as they sit by and watch the stupid amounts of advertising revenue, TV revenue fuelled on advertising revenue and the neuveau billionaire elite washing their money and ego's in public.

And everyone ignores the fact that the soul of the game is being murdered along with the souls of the spectators.

But hey, 5 American food and beer giants got their screen time....... everyone laughed when the WC was in the US and the TV companies wanted the game broken in to quarters

won't be long

and no it still isn't right that someone playing a game gets that amount in an annual salary

not when nurses, doctors and medical teams get by on the minimum, for doing work that benefits society

not when firemen have to take a second job, but still have to walk into the twin towers to save lives

not when the police are everyones punchbag but everyone complains when they are robbed or beaten.

No - the money in the sport should fund social causes, not making a tiny amount of people obscenely rich, because they are better at games.

You won't find me arguing that firemen, police, nurses, or people that do jobs that keep society running don't deserve better salaries. I don't blame footballers for that ill in society though, they're taking a slice of their pie.

The ones to blame for that are the government who allow corporations to sidestep tax and don't allow wages to rise in line with inflation. And it's the super rich themselves (who dwarf footballers) who set up offshore accounts to save pennies on the dollar, whilst amassing enough wealth to spend in 1,000 lifetimes.

Yes, rationally footballers earn too much for the hardship their job requires. But we live in a capitalist society where your worth is predominantly decided based on how much you can bring in financially. I don't blame young sportsmen who did what they could to get out of poverty for that, I blame the people who set the rules.

I'd certainly rather said sportsmen pocket a bit of that, rather than them getting manipulated by the men at the head of corporations, which is what would happen. If they get paid less it wouldn't go to firemen, police, or social causes .. it would go straight in to the back pocket of the super wealthy.

So the owners make more money then?

You've got it backwards, player salaries went up because the game created more revenue - tv money, sponsorships, and higher ticket prices. Revenue didn't go up to meet player salaries.

Now that we have shown as supporters that the market will bear these prices, we keep buying tickets and merch even if whilst complaining, owners have no motive to reduce those prices.

You aren't proposing a coherent solution, you're just ranting. You can't put toothpaste back in the tube, we can't wind the clock back to the 70s - they're gone. To fix football will require football to change, it just will.

So support socialist politics - or take the money you pump into football and put it into the public coffer for the NHS then.

This is capitalism. Footballers, and all entertainers for that reason, make what they make because people are willing to spend "inordinate" amounts of their own money and time on entertainment.

We are, truthfully, the problem. Its our will to keep funding this mess thats the biggest problem.

You are reading what you want, not what I'm trying to say.
It's a circuitous argument and what I was trying to say was that the game has to change the model. But Blatter management will not let that happen so it's spiralling out of control.
All everyone sees is the money magic of football, and how it can make everyone rich. And bollocks to the real fans, who actually support these teams.

I'm not making a workable proposal here, just having a moan at the merry go round that us commoners want to get off .

Once you're a Senior, the ticket prices are very reasonable. In the early '60's a match ticket was about 8 shillings. In today's money that's about £8. For many games I can get a ticket for just over £20 - in fact I got the ECL tickets for £14 each. Seems reasonable to me.
Of course, one can pay silly money if one wants to (or can afford to), but people like me definitely haven't been priced out of watching Spurs. I only have to pay £4.50 for the return train ticket, too. A decent day or evening out for under £30 is a bargain in my books.

Lucky you.

Any thoughts on pop stars or actors?
