The EUROS will surely get postponed until next year. That’s creates space for completing leagues over summer if countries can get the virus under control.

But in the UK the strategy is not to get it under control so the UK wont be able to finish. Some players will have caught it over coming months but can fixtures be played if some haven't and others have active infection?

Worst case scenario games get played in summer somehow and we will have a fit squad and Jose gets time to train like its preseason. Gives us a chance.

Also just thought, the world is going to ban flights from the UK until Christmas, as they wont want to import infections into their countries. Fans cant travel then. And how can EPL team players travel for the CL next season? I suppose they will allow ppl who have tested positive and cleared the infection. Means we want our players to catch it sooner rather than later, and testing will be vital.

End of days scenario isn’t it.

Need to finish this season. No point starting a new season as exactly the same thing could happen next winter supposedly. Be like a really crap version of Groundhog Day with some toothy twat (making predictions) moaning about crappy weather.

So I think They probably need to forget about traditional football calendars for a while.

Ditch the Euro’s and try and finish the leagues.

Players out of contract can’t play this summer - so they could represent their countries in games of 5 a side to fill the void left by the Euros.

And maybe by the summer of 2021 our stadium can be used to film BMX stunts.

The likely outcome is uncertain. Could be forced to play matches in summer or they abandon the season leaving us out of the European spots. Cannot see how transfer window can open until season finished and they will have to give players some holiday before new season which may start late. Could cancel next years league cup to get matches in if season starts late. Dele and Dier could be banned following disciplinary proceedings. No one really knows at present but if our present league position stands that is not good news.

Mate, they're going to be the same as us...I reckon America will be worse, thanks to how their social care mechanisms are set up...

Maybe. Probably eventually, but they will dampen down the cases by shutting things down, open up, and go back to trying to contain outbreaks before having to shut down again when it gets out of control. At points they will be open again and will not want more cases. Look at China right now is in that situation, I doubt it will last, but that is where they are open but wary of importing new cases.

America has more intensive care beds per head than anyone else. But yeah, many aren't allowed in them. So it'll be bad there and lots of other places too, including here. It's all bad.

If this season can't finish and next season can't start then sponsors aren't going to pay broadcasters aren't going to pay spectators aren't going to pay merchandise doesn't get sold, virtually every revenue stream for a football team runs dry

Whose going to pay the players and even the stadium in our case?

This virus may destroy modern day football.

It’s going to through FFP into a right shitstorm.

You could see clubs, businesses, airlines go bust from this.

Football is a mess for sure, the logical thing to do is stop the uncertainty, or half ass this thing, terminate all domestic club football, terminate the Euros (and let the history books show, abandoned due to disease control) and set a date for the new season to begin.....Sure Liverpool will get a raw deal, but it’s not all about them🙄, too many clubs in European spots, relegation spots and promotion spots are too close to call....And to avoid who should be playing in Europe next season just abandon the CL & EL for 1 season too.....
We have done this for 2 world wars...football will recover!!

Fifa club World Cup next summer, if euros move to then we'll see who has the power UEFA or fifa

What are the chances of the season being voided ? - given the next review will be 4th of april, i dont see the situation getting a lot better given how long it took a country like China to contain it

there is a very good chance the season will be abandoned and it will be a status quo regarding last year’s standings and European qualification imho.

there is precedent in times of national/global crisis.

I’m not sure about that (allowing those who’ve had it to travel) there have been a number of cases of people testing positive, then negative, then positive again.

Agree though totally regarding the UK strategy to do nothing and cull the old and weak, a cynic might think because it will lower the long term burden on the social system by solving the ageing population ‘problem’...

The champions league should be what it says on the tin champions , how can you be champions of 2,3,4 .Once again all it boils down to is money. Should be champions league for winners, UEFA cup for 2,3 , cup winners cup for the winners of the cup competitions. As it was back in the day when football wasn't all about money .

PL got an idea

"I think it's a possible option to leave the 20 teams in the league as it is but bring the top two in the Championship up.
"It gives us a larger league, with four relegation places next season and then two teams coming up again. It has some merit but there are a lot of issues to be worked through.”

Unfair on Spurs, poised as they are to take 4th place but it might be the only solution.

It’s difficult to see us getting Top 5 (assuming City remained banned) now. Last night was must win really if we were to overhaul Man U. They’ve a nice enough run of fixtures on paper over last 8 games. They have all 10 games played now against the so called Big 6 opposition (Bin Dippers, City, Chavs, Woolwich and ourselves). We’re still 4 points behind them with a marginally inferior goal difference too.

Top 4 has been gone for a while now. Shame but I think it’s clear we had our best chance of silverware and won nothing with that team.

When this thread was started we had a much better shout. But performances/results/injuries have been pretty shit on the whole.
