Player James Maddison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He hasn’t had a good game since November.

Of course I don’t expect him to play heavy metal football in pre-season but just compare the way he’s played this summer with Bergvall. He is being shown up by a youngster.

After being shite for the last 8 months I don’t think Maddison has any right to coast though this pre-season. Whatever it is that’s going through his head, it’s going to end up pushing him to the bench if he doesn’t shape up.
sorry mate but thats just not true. Calling him shite for 8 months is way over the top

dunno what it is with our fans - we seem obsessed with slating our players

Perhaps they are unhappy with underperformance and players phoning it in?

Maddison has done very, very little since his return from injury. Anyone with eyes can see that.

He has done even less in pre-season. His position in the team is quite possibly the most at threat.

Why is it over the top? Since his return on Jan 31st he has notched:

A goal against Villa
Assists against Everton, Palace, Burnley and Sheffield United

That’s shite and it’s why he was dropped from the England squad. If anything he’s is getting an easy ride, we could have played Bryan Gil instead of him for all those matches and I doubt he’d have done worse.

He's got an easy ride. 100%

I've been critical of him, but to answer your question; perhaps it's how you and one or two others chose to word things that makes it feel like exaggeration.

"No decent game since Nov" = 9 months to date critique
"Shite for 8 months" = 8 months critique
"Returned from Injury Jan 31st" = 6 month critique.

Yet that only = 3 1/2 months of active season time since he returned.

It’s the relentless negativity that does my head in

He was injured until late Jan/early feb, and when he came back he wasn’t at his best but there were certainly some decent patches in there

Villa away, forest at home, city at home off the top of my head, he was excellent.

Anyway, I dunno why I’m bothering, he’s been shite for 8 months, waste of space, get rid etc etc etc. zzzzzz

Nobody is saying get rid, waste of space. Don't be sensationalist.

Groups of people are saying he has been shite. Because he has. To the point where he wasn't even taken to the Euros.

He's been a shadow of the player he can be, although it seeming mirrors his previous a was sons with Leicester certainly. Starts well, gets injured, returns shit. Rinse and repeat.

They are broken upstairs mate. There's no point telling them what it's like to listen to them... it's like dealing with someone who has been brainwashed.

Have a moan, fine but people have got fully addicted to the negativity.

That’s just nitpicking. He has made a minimal contribution to the team since November and his place is rightly in jeopardy. I think we can all agree on that.

I think we also all agree that he has the talent to turn it around, it’s all down to him. He’s either up for it or he isn’t. What we don’t need is another Sessegnon who is afraid of his own legs and plays with the handbrake on. Injuries are part of football, you have to play hard otherwise you will get found out.

i was being sensationalist, to make a point, because thats how it feels reading through this thread

according to the forum he's a diva who loves attention, fairweather, can't handle pressure, etc etc. and thats only on the last 3 pages

My opinion is not that he's been total shite - more that his form was patchy when he came back, with a definite dip but some good moments too, and some good games

You do you.

He's had about six moments, the odd goal and assist etc. in that return. OP

He's looked slow, leggy and wary of that ankle; perhaps anxious after getting the shit kicked out of him with no protection from the refs.

The fact remains he was way off what everyone expected from him, including probably himself.

That’s just nitpicking.

It's not nitpicking at all........... It's an explanation of how/why "exaggeration" is being perceived.

If you're in his shoes and I told you to your face that you'd been shit for nine months - in reference to a 3 1/2 month period - you'd understandably tell me to fuck off.

I already said I was critical of him since return... He needs to redeem himself, yes; but a 3rd of the time he's being criticised for he was injured and another 2 1/2 months of it there were no games!!!

I actually think his injury was not only terrible timing, but maybe worse than we thought, as he (like Bentancur) clearly hasn't quite been the same since...

Hopefully it won't take too long to get back up to speed... Bentancur seems to have had a decent enough Copa America to suggest he's over the worst of his injuries...

Maybe Madders NOT going to the Euros was a blessing in disguise...

Yes, it probably hit him hard mentally, but physically, I bet he was glad of the rest and plenty of time to get back to full fitness.

I'm trying not to worry yet!
