I think we shared a positive appraisal of him some days ago.....

Hearing Villa fans talk about him they do seem to back up the theory that he conspires to make at least one big blunder in most games.

Didn't realise he was 26 already (27 in March).... How coach-able is he at this point?

At times he looses his concentration. Like back in the day (Bournmouth time) where he used most of a game fighting with Zlatan. He did something similiar last season at least twice in the Championship. Haven't seen it from him this season, and I think there was a video where he talked about how serious he's started taking football. I'd say the physical attributes are in place and he' defo trying to be a leader.

But at this point he's not selling himself. Villa's getting gutted

Last season any game Dier was fit and we played the diamond, he played. Poch’s mistake this season was believing Winks had the required traits to become a 6/DM.

I don't have the figures, but that can't have been many given Eric's ins & outs......

Winks / Sissoko + Dele/Eriksen was pretty standard. Esp. in the second half of the season.

Your post is a very interesting and probably for the most part factual read, but where exactly are you getting the info Klopp didn’t want Salah?
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he nearly didn't sign Mohamed Salah

Basically, Liverpool’s scouting department had to harangue Klopp into signing off. Salah was never a Klopp guy prior to arriving, it was driven entirely by the club structure. I would add that scouting in this context likely also included their data and analytics team.

Also worth a read:

How Liverpool Built A Potential Champion
How Data (and Some Breathtaking Soccer) Brought Liverpool to the Cusp of Glory

The Egyptian-born Salah was coming off a 15-goal campaign with Roma in Serie A, but the signs of even bigger breakout were there. Liverpool inked him for around $47 million in June of last year, which was then a club record, and 42 goals later, that deal is looking like an incredible bargain. Firmino and Mane both similarly showed their potential before their Liverpool signings: Firmino’s production for Hoffenheim in 2014-15 and Mane’s for Southampton in 2015-16 were among the best player seasons in the sample I examined, which included non-striker attacking players in the five biggest leagues over the previous three seasons.3 Liverpool used data to identify players who weren’t just on a hot streak but who demonstrated repeatable skills, and those purchases have paid off in goals.

There’s also some good articles out there on City’s player recruitment policies and practices.

Without wanting to get into an interminable debate about it, Poch was horrific when it came to squad-building/succession planning, IMO. But as you say, that did seem to be Poch's plan for Winks. There can be no other explanation, really.
