We shouldn't sign players as back up to our established ones, we should sign players to push them and even replace them.

We aren't talking about a backup to Aurier etc though, we are talking about a backup to Harry Kane. Let's be honest is there a striker in world football that won't cost an enormous bollock who could compete with him realistically?
Competition for most places yes but realistically I don't see something financially practical to go toe to toe with him week in week out.

Signing 28 year old journey men won't no, but signing hungry young players with a bit of arrogance could pay dividends.
With every window that ends with us hearing about how we can't compete with the money clubs, the more I feel we may have to sell off a a few assets to continue moving forward.
And what assets are left that will bring in fees?
Kane
Son
Dele

Bout it really. I could see Dele being the first to go.

It’s not about being a feeder club.

Well that's very much the 'sell them as they blossom' BVB model. I think we're striving for beyond that at this stage.

You and I know well that we would have the resources to keep him longer than Dortmund and maybe fufill our ambitions to chase big trophies.

He'll leave in a year or two for a better chance of trophies... The proverbial bigger stage, not a nominal wage increase. (I dunno how much BVB are paying him; feel free to say if you do....)

Let's not pretend we knew jack shit about him in the summer, so based on our situation midway through this season, why would he decide to come here (circa Dec '19) based on our ambitions? ....Least of all when BVB are 4 points from top and there's an opening to lead their line.

If we are not going to sign the big talents, who the fuck are we going to sign? The next best ones and hope for the best?

What is our ambitions really?

I'd say our strategy is eveidently a mix of

- Ndomebele/GLC high-end prospects that have played at a good level already.
- Gedson style punts... (People are forgetting he's still got a mooted 30-40m pricetag... Same as Sanchez & Sessengon.)
- Foyth/Dier/Dele.... Cheap talent to develop.

Whether that's enough to win us the league or CL; perhaps not, but one can only see how the chips fall.

We're still merely the 6th richest team in our league and there's still others beyond that also have higher prestige and financial clout so no point getting too carried away when considering ourselves 'big boys'.

We have a lot of assets that will bring in fees. How much do you think teams would stump up for players like Davies, Sanchez, Winks etc? I fancy a few clubs would pay decent wedge for a fair few of our not so major players.

I'm fascinated to see what KWP goes for, I bet we get a decent slab for him from somewhere once he's offski.

It's a tough one for sure as we do need depth yet but we have Kane who ain't getting dropped on a consistent basis let's be honest and we have a really promising striker in Parrott we need to ensure we don't stifle with a lot of congestion mid to long term.

Honestly I'd rather see us stump up a bit for a loan deal. Not sure if that Arp kid that ended up at Bayern is getting minutes but if someone like that is available until the endnote of the season is or Mariano at Real Madrid etc I'd probably rather see us go for that.

If Parrott wasn't waiting in the wings (pun absolutely intended) I'd like to see us go heavy but I wouldn't want it to come at the detriment of a really promising HG player getting the long term exposure he may require. I do think we'll end up with Piatek though and I'd be happy with that. I'd have no complaints if we do.

We used to have berbs keane defoe and bent

We scored 100 goals

Clearly levy aint the problem

It was poch.

If we want to win leagues you need a backup striker that can score goals.....solskjear...sheringham....wiltord....jesus...remy and so on

Lets stop fucking about and get it sorted. Its fucking stupid

Jesus Christ it’s fucking sad. We used to go to teams like Watford and be 4-0 up at half time. What’s happened?

I put it down to Dembele leaving. We used to dominate a midfield, meaning the defenders just defended and the attacks could attack. Now we have no balance which is losing us the game.

The last time we did that, Dembele wasn't even playing, it was Wanyama and Eriksen in midfield. And that is more the answer to our problems. The best season in recent memory was the one season under Poch when we actually had a proper good busy cunt 6 in Wanyama.

As much as this spoils a favourite narrative, it was never Dembele that was real difference, it was actually having a proper blend of various skills.

And in his whole time with us Dembele played about 50% of games. Even at our pomp under Poch the most he played was about 60% once.

We are in exactly the same position as when we sold bale and bought 7 players.

A disjointed badly planned squad with huge holes in some areas and over stocked in others. Its shit planning or bad management.

Depends what sort of absurd prices Daniel puts on them.

He'd likely value Winks and something ridiculous like £60 million, when he's likely around half of that. Davies maybe £20? Sanchez around £25-30?

The problem is the teams that would want to buy them. Winks would be going to the likes of Everton. No one else will really need him. And those teams only pay so much.

The TV money getting distributed a lot more evenly than it may have been based on viewing ratings have turned £10m players into £40m players. It's not as easy to stock up like it used to be.

Which 2 strikers would you add and at what cost to have something similar to what we had with Berba, Defoe and Keane?

Glossing over the bit in between 2013 and now does us more than a bit of a dis-service though... Especially as we've built a stadium in the meantime, made it to the CL final; nearly won the league and are now paying higher pricetags on players than ever before.

Only notable player sold in that time was Walker, so no I don't see us as being the selling club we were previously accused of being.....

Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Carrick, Keane being sold was not fun.... BVB are still of that model.

Dembele leaving and Wanyama breaking and neither being replaced well and truly fucked us.

We lack a conductor and a destroyer

Modric/dembele to dictate

Wanyama/sandro to bully

Weve too many number 8s like u say. A team.of david silvas.

Modric/ Dembele replacement - £50m-£60m

Wanyama/ Sandro to bully - £40m-£60m

Probably need a RB as well, potentially a CB. All in all maybe £200m required for this evening four?

Where do you see the money coming from for not penny pinching a backup FWD?

Granted a lack of a blinding DM is a thorn in our side, but did you not catch the big list of #8's I posted a page or two ago?

We have a shed-load of #8s(*) with all varying skillsets; we desperately need a boss DM to unlock them to do whatever it is they are tasked with doing.... Of course a prime Dembele may prove un upgrade upon all of them, but if we're still chasing the ideal replacement in the trf window then we're barking up the wrong tree.

(*) Ndombele
Lo-Celso
Fernandez
Winks
Sissoko
+ Dele, Eriksen.

Im talking about the squad..not our previous achievements or business model
