Choosing to believe that JM is playing the market. Why indicate he wants/needs to be a buyer? Be the "reluctant" shopper. Or, we could truly be in for no new players in Jan. Do agree spending does not need to be in attack, except possibly a back up striker. Spend at the back, shore up defence.

It's hard to know what to think about these sorts of comments. It's exactly the same line as Poch, clearly it reflects a message Levy wants to communicate (to what audience?), but then at the same time, there we went and bought Ndombele and Lo Celso in the offseason.
I get the notion that it's stupid to come out and act like we have money to spend, but it's still a bit worrying that we aren't going to make "Big Transfers".

Just simply because we do need a 2 fullbacks, a DM and a CB minimum to challenge next season, and for them to be at the requires quality we will need to spend "big".

At the end of the day, the math doesn't change. Filling a 62k stadium at world-leading prices (to say nothing of the TV and commercial aspects of revenue) will necessarily require significant investment in both the transfer market and player wages. End of.

The worry is that Mourinho represents Levy's last gambit to try and weasel out of that iron law.

But again, there we were buying Ndombele and Lo Celso. Who knows.

Bit contradictory that....

We will continue to spend smart.... No surprises we won't be buying individuals from the top shelf...

Spoiler: M'bappe ain't coming.

...And 40m Davinson + 30m 'Champo' Sessengon.

Levy's such a "weasel".

I think Jose want a CDM, and i think that will be Nemanja Matic. Jose knows very well him. A think Matic with José plays his best football. Wanyama probably will gone in January.

And a substitute for Harry we need. Lucas or Son their are not Striker´s
Hmmm, £15 million (according to Metro) for a 31-year-old player available for free in the summer.

I can't say I've ever once thought "Wow, I wish he played for us"

Selling Walker, Wimmer and Fazio to bring in Dav, Aurier and Foyth for roughly zero net cost is exactly the sort of proactive squad management I'm advocating for.

We could also keep spunking out 100M a summer while letting core pieces get away for free like we did last summer. It ain't my money. But that would be a radical shift in the business practices of the club, and would directly contravene Mourinho's statement that started this conversation.

Maths....Maths...not Math!!!

With a new long term GK required and with a huge name like Jose in charge now, what do think about our chances bagging this little gem?

Contract expires 2021 so he'll be available for a very decent price come June/ August time
Tbh i think we're well covered with brandon austin .

So where are everyone of you on

Rose
Eriksen
Toby
Jan?

Every of them resigned (and motivated obvs) could be a steal compared to the spend needed to replace them, but can your pride swallow how they have been snaking the club?

For me no, as of now .
