1. 100m was not spent
2. Why would 200m be unrealistic?
3. It’s not necessarily that we have to spend fortunes it’s; why do we leave the squad with gaping holes and zero cover for positions?

1. £100m was spent on Ndombele, Sessegnon, Clarke and Lo Celso loan fee- or technically 'committed' rather than spent as almost no transfer fees are paid up front but paid over the life of the contract, so a £50m fee paid for a player on a 5 year contract would be paid (or spent) at £10m per annum.

And by the way the Lo Celso transfer with a £14m loan fee paid up front with a £30m or so fee payable if Spurs get into europe (and when the contract was entered into that was regarded on both sides as a forgone conclusion) - the structure being to help Betis reduce their payments to PSG by a few million - is fairly similar to a straight forward transfer at say £45m

2. £200m was unrealistic bearing in mind Spurs cash generation (see Spurs financial results) for the previous year.

We could have spent a little more but several possible transfers fell away - the best known perhaps being Sybala due to the image rights holder wanting £40m on top of the fee required to buy Dybala

There is also the difficulty in trying to integrate more than 4 - 6 players into the squad, plus difficulties in getting unwanted players to move on - they need to consent to moves

3 Correct its not necessary to spend fortunes - but you need a good team to buy players, Spurs have lost that - Liverpool hired one team from us and that is the cotre of their very successful acquisitiions team buying the likes of Robertson frpm Hull for circa £6m

Mourinho was coy enough about Cavani in his presser. Just said I’ve a good relationship with the PSG owner and sporting director, not going to talk about one of their players....

He did basically flat out deny Bruno previously so maybe there’s legs to Cavani..

Oh he also said Eriksen plays tomo.....
