When Eriksen leaves we will have LoCelso, Dele, Moura and Lamela, as AM's so will struggle to play 4231 with only 4 AM's to cover 3 positions.

If we are using Eriksen's overseas trained player spot to buy a striker, we will need an HG player as the AM, and with QPR unwilling to sell Eze until summer, best candidate imo is Jarod Bowen.

Hull lost 2-1 to Chelsea today with BBC saying :

Top scorer Bowen, linked with a move to the top flight this month, was their busiest player in the first half and managed four shots on goal - more than any other player on the pitch although none of them really troubled Willy Caballero in the Chelsea goal.

The 23-year-old's best moment came early in the second half when he took on three players by himself before poking a shot just over the bar.

MOTM as well

Probably showed today that he can play in PL, especially with better players around him.

He is certainly an interesting talent and would give us some extra options upfront.

Son --------- Kane ------- Bowen

---- Lo Celso ---- Ndombele (Gedson)

Think he could be Moura's replacement as winger/striker, and he's a natural goalscorer, more so than Moura imo. Only thing he's not got is pace, but against sides sitting back pace isn't required.

Bring in Eze in the summer as well, possibly as Lamela's replacement (too injury prone to be reliable) and I think we have a very decent set of AM's.

His first transfer was a third party using a club to buy him as an investment (apparently that club are notorious for it).

Its 6 loans, Sao Paulo, Gremio, Santos, Real Madrid B (Castilla), Zaragoza and Las Palmas. Whilst at Castilla, he got called up to play for Real Madrid, which is why they show as a 7th team but it wasn't a separate loan.

Transfer market shows him playing RW and Support Striker for Las Palmas, but I've seen him play as basically a AM for Real Sociedad too, so some of the time it shows him as a CF on Transfermarket I think he played deeper and the wide players played more like strikers than wingers.

In regards to goalscoring, he is a deep lying forward like Firminho, who has never scored more than 16 and only hit double figures twice more, despite being settled at clubs and he is the best in the business at playing that role. It must be difficult having to adapt to a new club 6 seasons in a row (due to being owned by an investment company) and at the start, most of his game time was off the bench. Also Jimenez had never scored more than 7 in a season before going to Wolves.

Willian Jose stats for his DLF play are poor this season but look at the 2 season prior, 1.2 key pass average and 24 pass per game average. Firminho's (best in the business at that role) is 1.35 & 34, Kane's is 1 & 18, Embolo's is 0.8 and 11 and Dolberg's is 0.7 and 12.

I meant what young forward that is available now not previously, but anyway, Dolberg had never managed more than 16 in a league that Janssen scored 27 in an Embolo has never scored more than 10.

Informative, thanks. You’re doing a decent job of warming him up for me, but still, 28yo? Not ideal. But "back-up striker" is always difficult remit to fill when you have one of Europe's uber strikers as your first choice and you generally play a single striker system. You will never be signing a player anywhere near as good as Kane, because he'd be an absolute idiot to want to sit on the bench for 90% of the season. Even City had Jesus, a young kid, as back up, Klopp inherited Origi and kind of added wide strikers and converted Firminho to a brilliant false 9.

personally I think there was a fabulous option last summer to sign Fekir at an absolute bargain price (20m) a player who's comfortably better than all our AM's (I'm classing Lo Celso as an 8 here) but can and often did play as a 9, and did a good job at it. he'd have gotten plenty of football and given us a good 9 back up who could replicate what Kane does as a 9, drop deep, hold it up, dribble a bit and create for others as well as score.

A much more expensive option would have been someone like Pepe, who again, plays as a wide forward but can play as the 9 if required occasionally and is a presence.

I used to like the idea of Rebic when he was costing 5m from Croatia or Italy early on, then poo poo'd him later on as although he'd clearly started to finally fulfil his potential at Frankfurt he was still a bit erratic, and I thought we had enough of that already and we could do better - but I'd rather have him in our squad as an option than Moura or a pure 9. He works his nuts off without the ball, can play 9 or as a wide forward and is a really aggressive fucker. Something our forward line needs more of.

Same goes for Embolo. He's raw and a bit erratic but versatile, can play 9, flash 9, wide, he's aggressive and works hard without the ball.

I think Dolberg is a classier proposition, and can develop his game, but he really needs to be playing every week, and he is more just a 9, so coming to us might be nice for us, but I don't think it would help his career.

A wild card I quite like is Niang (Rennes) he's a kind of Adebayor light. Good touch for a big fella, robust, drops and holds well, scores goals, can maybe play as a wide forward, but not so effective.

The trouble is, strikers are generally confidence players, that thrive on rhythm and being in the groove to score, so any you bring as back up that can't play other positions are going to struggle for that rhythm. This is where your argument for someone like Jose has some merit I guess. An older journeyman who's been around the block and is a tough character..?

What interests me is I hear his transitioned from a wide man to a central striker really well. Bowen is a right sided player isnt he?

Yes to Watkins transitioning to striker.

Bowen is slightly more complicated answer as he's primarily a left footer usually playing on the right side (as did Arjen Robben) and cutting in to shoot with his left foot but he's pretty two footed in that he also scores with his weaker right foot.
