Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There's no doubt. Everyone knows January is generally a terrible time to do business, even the most adamant Levy out people know that deep down.

The only legitimate reason to want to see us really invest right now is because the top 4 is for the taking if we just had the right mix of quality. Other than that it's basically fear of Conte suddenly walking (he won't) or just deeper anti-Levy sentiment.
It’s top 4 pure and simple for me. That should be the target and it’s really achievable. We aren’t going to catch up with the top 3 squads in one January window (& Conte has said this) but daring to do now could pay huge dividends for the rest of the season & beyond.
I think if we get top 4, spend more money reinforcing in the early part of the summer window, then we can give next season a real go on all fronts with a squad that Conte is becoming more content with.
Conte stays and we are in for an exciting season 2022/23.
So much hinges on top 4 & it’s certainly not out of reach. If there was ever a time to take a gamble on the known requirements of a top class manager, then it’s this week.
If it all goes to shit, then it’s a summer of uncertainty.
Kane will be agitating again, Conte is likely to go elsewhere and we will struggle to attract a half decent manager and any decent signings.

Why would I need the info? It's fucking obvious! We have a DoF. Nuno was a last minute choice as a stopgap. There's zero chance we were giving him much power over transfer strategy, Emerson was an opportunistic signing due to Barca struggling.

Ok, but this all still = no successful, impactful signings thus far for Spurs. When 1-2 of those would have us comfortably in the top four. Thus far he has failed to deliver, and he left Juventus in a state too so I have little faith of that turning around.
I agree that none of his signings have made any quality impact so far. And I am not saying I am convinced about Paratici either (his 1st choice Gattuso is an indication of that). Yes, when he left Juve they were in a bit of a mess, true....but after he's been at the club for 12 years while Juve won Seri A 9 times. So he sure did some "good" for the club as well. No, he does not deserve all the credit for that but nor for the mess Juve was in. A year after he joined Juve he got Conte as their head-coach...
But your statement that Nuno had no say in transfers is not so obvious. The press would be quick to pick up that. Yes, he arrived after Paratici got appointed but no player was bought until after that appointment but we just have to disagree that Nuno had no say whatsoever in transfer matters. If a DoF would not consult a present head-coach about his systems etc....that would be plain stupidity, and neither Levy nor Paratici are that daft.

It’s poch’s Achilles heel big time

Even at Southampton he bought that complete nutter of a CF.

Absolutely atrocious eye for a player
Poch left 2.5 years and 4 (almost 5) windows ago and we've not bought a good player since either. The problems run much deeper than Pochs eye for a player. Also Mourinho sanctioned the permanent signing of Lo Celso, he was loan with an option.

Yeh shit but they are all still here. That's not Poch's fault.

Other clubs ship out failing players we just let them hang around for year after year. While making excuses for them needing time to settle and develop etc. We're still doing it with Sess and Clarke there are still people who think give them another year and they'll come good....

So very, very well put.

And because it literally pisses money out the window - by the secret and magic formula unknown to billionaire investment bankers [days going by * wages * written off transfer value] - it is really, really incredible that we refuse to learn from those mistakes.

He did mixed work (ending in a lot of failure .. including lumbering them with a bunch of very mediocre, high wage players) at a side who have a lot of pull in Serie A and could afford to attract Cristiano Ronaldo. He was also operating in a league and country he understood well. I don't see how this translates to being highly successful in England operating at Spurs.

I'm sure he was 'consulted', but there's no way he had a part in picking out Emerson. He needed a right back and was given one. It wasn't like he went and asked for him, no chance was he able to make requests for players. Why would he? The guy was a last second, desperate appointment and we sacked him in no time. As for systems, Nuno played 5 at the back, counter attacking football every season apart from one at Wolves, came here and suddenly it was about 4-3-3 and Tottenham DNA. He wasn't given freedom or support at all.

I'd be happy with:-
Outs
Lo Celso sold/loan
Ndombele Loan with option to buy
Dele Alli loan

Ins
Wijnaldum and Icardi as part of Ndombele Loan deal.
Adama Traoré

Sure we'll have a few other random youngster out on loan too, and maybe one other youngster in

Yes there was, there was plenty of noise because the same thing is said every frigging year, you don't have to be Pro or anti ENIC or whatever nonsense criteria you wish to shove people in, look at the history of transfers this month for evert club, not just ours and then look at the behaviour as to when club's try and do business which is always in the last week.

Unless you believe the media's claims of Tottenham giving Conte £150m to spend this January then that's on you, set your expectations.

Well, we have.

And when we say high and loud that those expectations are WAY off ENICs "ambitions", well then that too is wrong.

It's as if a big part of the fanbase just has that annual excuse calendar going.

21 years now. It's not new and it certainly isn't clever.

So many people were worried that the club wouldn’t make Lo Celso’s loan permanent :contehandshead:

When Lo Celso first played he was good arguably our best player for 3 months or so. Jose talked about him make them pay the money because of his form. Difficult to know he would simply be injured and not give much of a shit from then on.

We have in effect been hit by two players in Ndombele and Lo Celso having poor attitudes, not poor ability. Ade and Kaboul again although arguably worse this time.
