Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Loan with an option if we didn't qualify for Europe, obligation if we did.

It was basically a ploy so Betis could pot more cash the following Summer. Reports say we paid them something like £16m for the loan and there's an obligation to buy for a lower fee if we qualified for Europe which meant the PSG sell on clause was massively reduced.
I get that it was a ploy but we still had chance to pull the plug. There is nothing official about qualifying for Europe it was still a loan with an option, no matter how shady.

This is not meant to be an excuse for them but I think it hurts both Ndombele and Lo Celso that they came in at the same time and both didn't work out.

If one had worked out it would probably take a lot of the focus on the other and the "worst ever" transfer label wouldn't be used.

It is tough to say worst ever when they aren't remotely close to the worst players we ever signed, but I with their price and "hype" I can see why people see it as that.

Of course.

And maybe these clubs and with all respect to them because they have been very good managers, clubs will take a chance with British managers..

And that is not xenophobic but look at the lost of late. Mourinho, Santo, Benitez and now Ranieri.

Time to stop thinking these managers can keep on doing it.

Ranieri should now retire and stop trying to beat time. He has done great things but will undo it all if he carries on.

If this is true we must have incomings lined up. Surely we're not going to end the window weaker than we started it, right?

Right?

Right?!

:contefacepalm2:

It isn't the clubs fault. They had to move guys out first or else they would be stuck with a bloated squad but with so little time left in the window there isn't enough time to get the complicated deals done to bring in replacements.

Such a tough window to get anything done, the club is doing an amazing job try to navigate everything being specifically set up to screw Spurs. Outstanding job by them for sure.

Spurs have enquired about Vlahovic.
Here's how that conversation went...

Levy to Vlahovic's agent / Fiorentina Chairman: "How's Dusan?"
Reply: "He's well thanks"

End of conversation.

He did mixed work (ending in a lot of failure .. including lumbering them with a bunch of very mediocre, high wage players) at a side who have a lot of pull in Serie A and could afford to attract Cristiano Ronaldo. He was also operating in a league and country he understood well. I don't see how this translates to being highly successful in England operating at Spurs.

I'm sure he was 'consulted', but there's no way he had a part in picking out Emerson. He needed a right back and was given one. It wasn't like he went and asked for him, no chance was he able to make requests for players. Why would he? The guy was a last second, desperate appointment and we sacked him in no time. As for systems, Nuno played 5 at the back, counter attacking football every season apart from one at Wolves, came here and suddenly it was about 4-3-3 and Tottenham DNA. He wasn't given freedom or support at all.
I understand you don't like Paratici, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve credit for what he did at Juve. And, again, I am aware of some of the mess he left behind at Juve. And that Juve is a big club not just in Italia but in the world so they do have an advantage.
However, after he left Juve they have struggled even to; so not even a club like Juve are guaranteed success. But there is no doubt that he did a very good job for them.
And I did not say that his success at Juve would translate into success at Spurs. But look at head coaches in the at all the top EPL clubs: all non-British (ok, West Ham have Moyes but I don't consider WH as a top club really). And most(not all) of their top players are also non-British.
Bottom line is to give him at least a full season to prove himself. I am not totally convinced about him either but I am ready to give him some time to prove himself.
Regarding Emerson: I remember that Spurs were after Tomiyasu for almost the entire transfer window...but then all of a sudden shifted to Emerson after Nuno joined Spurs. Just as you are speculating I am now bringing up another speculation....
