Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

All our managers have had the power to say "I need this player to win".
The board doing the deal is an entirely different matter.
Not just doing it, but when and how they do it.
Yeah, yeah, you can have that player Tony. On the last day of the window. As long as they accept our lowballing. And the player takes half the money the other club are offering"

Not HG (which I'd greatly prefer for a GK2), but at least I see a long term future for him here...

As for cost though.....

Who's priced at what?

Onana should be viewed as a long term replacement for Lloris, not a #2. I'd be happy in fact if Lloris was moved on in the summer if Onana was the replacement. Then we can look at bringing in a HG backup to him instead.

Well that's largely what I meant by "future"....

In a perfect world, we'd have both Hugo & Onana for a year or two for a gradual transition(*) from one to the other, but unlikely a GK of Onana's quality will be keen on a pitch of "you'll be #1 by the end of year 2".
It'd also be somewhat insulting to a GK of HLs standing to want him to accept an increasingly depleting role.

(*The idea of just abruptly jetisoning Hugo concerns me as he's one of the few players we have that we can rely on to be a pro on AND off the pitch.)

If we've got a genuine opportunity to bring Onana in now, then unfortunately I think Lloris will either have to accept fighting for his place (ala Friedel when Lloris was brought in originally) or he moves elsewhere, with the thanks of the fans. He's been brilliant but IMO has been in decline, so now is a decent time to move on.

Not a priority to replace so if it turns out the Onana deal goes sideways I wouldn't be bothered about another season of Lloris, but we should prioritise bringing in a talented young keeper if the opportunity arises.

Apparently already agreed with Inter
Read last week that he had a verbal agreement with Inter for around €3m per year, despite interest from other big clubs. There was some comment made by his agent to a Dutch journalist dismissing the Inter link in early September, but Romano seems to be committed to it.

Maybe Conte and higher wages can convince him. Would be a fine successor to Hugo, but you'd want a good backup to contend with AFCON every two years.

If he ain't signed on the line the agreement don't mean shit.

We need a new central midfield. It's broken beyond repair. Ideally I would ship out everyone bar Skipp (and I think he's been overrated so far). Such a mess.
I don't see where shipping Ndombele out at this point makes sense. He cost too much to recoup, I think we've all seen that he has the talent, and I think Conte can get him playing his best. PEH should be staying too, even if just used in a rotation. I agree on the rest, though. I actually wouldn't mind seeing Skipp go out on loan to another Prem or upper-level Championship side for a season or two, while we get in someone who can really boss it for us in the meantime. I think Skipp could have a long, successful career with us, but he's not quite there yet.
