Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Because we are run sensibly?

Look at what happened to Leeds went they went beyond their means.

I hate the fact that when we've been so close we fell short because of penny pinching, but I wouldn't want the clubs future to be risked because we wank too much of our revenue on wages. It's an unsustainable model.

Our chief playmaker will probably be a more traditional Italian "regista". A deep lying playmaker like how he used Brozovic and Eriksen at Inter and now Winks for us. Someone that can ping balls out to the wingbacks or onto the strikers. And Skipp and Pierre (at least for now) will have the Barella role as ball winners further up in midfield driving into the opposing box.
I’m looking forward to seeing Romero back in the side. Will be interesting to see what remit he is given. He’s clearly very aggressive in terms of pushing up and looking to win the ball back, so perhaps his game will allow Skipp to push further forward.

Ndombele is off it seems what a waste of talent that man is.

I'm not sure that's the read. I'm not saying it's not (he might be off), but conte says he's looking at everyone, it just sounds like he's made his mind up on Winks already (that he's good enough).

I'm as surprised as anyone, but hard to argue that he's been much better recently. I'll be chuffed for the lad if he comes good. But fuck me, he's got some work to do.

Same for Tanguy, Hard to give up on him, but it's seemingly overdue. I'm hopeful, so I'd even be tempted to give him another pre-season to sort shit out. That's my final offer! Then he can have a few games in Aug and we can kick him if need be.

EDIT: I just read the 'I've done two months of evaluation' comments and seems likely Tanguy is on the chopping block. Not sure we'll get half what we paid for him, though, so maybe Conte will be forced to train him, in which case, I'll stick with my above comments.

I can't believe there are so many many of you that don't understand how businesses run.

This is a business, whether you or I like it or not. You would not run your own company this way. It wouldn't survive. Everyone knows the clubs that operate the other way aren't sustainable.

Of course I want us to buy players and spend money. But not at any cost. It should be earned. We need a few players to be able to compete for the cups. Anything else you need to be bought out and I don't want to win that way. If you do, perhaps this isn't the club for you to support.

Yes - but neither would leave or downgrade their wages. Winks was the easiest to shift to a newly promoted Champo team this summer.

None of them are easy to shift because none of them are very good.

But Winks has at least shown Conte that he is fit and ready to work hard. That is the first and most basic requirement. A manager like Conte would never choose to keep players like Ndombele and Lo Celso over him.

We have already seen that Skipp has been given more of a green light to push forward in the last few games, especially when Winks has been on the field as well. So I can only assume that he will be given more and more of an okay to do that as time goes on.

I don't think Conte will write off Gio until he actually sees him on the pitch. Yes someone always injured isn't reliable but I think he probably stays in Jan and the rest of this season is make or break.

I'd say the following are definitely gone in Jan in loan/ loan to buy deals:
- Rodon
- Doherty
- Dele
- Ndombele

And we will try to sign:
- RWB
- LCB
- Attacker

Maybe we get Kessie on a pre contract for the summer as well.

It's a bit concerning for me that we will probably not strengthen CM. We really only have Skipp and PEH that have proven they can play in a 2. Winks is fine in a 3 but if we ship out Dele and Ndombele who is the the 3rd creative option? Jury still out on Gio.

From Conte's press conference today:

Do you believe you need to add players in the January transfer window to challenge for the top four?

For sure. After only two weeks, I said we need to improve the quality of the squad and for sure we need to improve the quality of this squad. I was sure after seven days, ten days, two weeks about this. Then I made evaluations to understand which players I could count on and which players I can’t.

For sure, the squad needs to improve quality but in an important way. Before we think about a place in the UEFA or Conference League because in this League the level is very high. Now we’re in the middle and we have to think to build something important. For this reason, I ask for patience and time because now the gap is very large and we need to work a lot, and also to try to build. And also improve the quality of the squad.

What is Tanguy Ndombele's role in your plans?

He is a midfielder. I think… he is a midfielder.

Last summer Ndombele wanted to leave, is there a chance he will leave in January?

I repeat before to speak about transfer market, about this topic. I think that it’s better for me and the club to speak together. And then we will have the situation more clear than now. Now, to speak about players that they can come, or to go, I think is not right, and is not honest.

Harry Winks is playing well though in the midfield?

Winksy is playing well and Winks has showed to be a reliable player. And for this reason, Winksy will stay here. I find players that are reliable, and then I can count on them and Winksy showed me that I can count on him.

The sad thing about Ndombele situation is that he’s literally exactly the player we need, in terms of technical attributes.

He’s cost our club a lot of money and clearly doesn’t give 100% effort- an absolute disgrace.

Between him and Lo Celso what a bollocks. Both of them came off great form for their clubs and countries and have good technical ability when we bought them.

Ndombele - his odd top cameos are great in how he just takes control of games but he only does it for 30-40 mins once every few games he plays.

Lo Celso - played so well for Jose at the start was our best player for a few months, then got injured an injured and injured yet always ready for Argentina. Seems unable to take care of his body.

Lo Celso and Ndombele could make it so that we don’t have to worry about buying midfielders with their talent, instead they are more like wage thieves.
