I'd kill for Berbatov Defoe level signingsI remember the days when we signed players like Ardiles,Villa, Waddle, Gazza, Lineker,Ginola, Davids and Klinsmann etc
Its so depressing now.

Defoe is still playing - 3rd time lucky?
Yeah I can’t see a really good signing coming in at all. I think 20m type signing or traore as you mention. He didn't say " a no one" he said "no one" which is a bit melodramatic.
I'd be surprised at this juncture if we don't sign Traore
If we pulled a rabbit out of a hat and sold any of the 3 stooges, we could do more.
... oh god, are you going to link to that Womens' team player too?
Not sure if that was a rhetorical question, but in case not, I believe he is adding together for each team the first 3 columns on this link:
I hope L & L, while watching this interview on Lewis' yacht, are not misunderstanding Conte's subtle hint here...
Different game different club. I have zero idea what the rules are in this world."It's a dream to sign for Tottenham"
Either she doesn't subscribe to interweb or her agent is the bentest of bent fuckers in the business
Not really, what happens if the starting Wolves player gets Covid tomorrow?Adama isn’t making the wolves team atm, so we can get him now if we wanted.
That link also shows the last 5 years we've net spent 50m more than Liverpool, doubled our annual net spend to 44m, and only been outspent (net) by Arse, Chelsea, City, ManU, Everton.
The last three years - since stadium was completed - only four teams have higher net - Arse (-307m), Villa (227), ManU (321.22), ManC (217) than us (215.4).
Last three years we've almost matched City's net, higher net spent than Liverpool (43m) and Chelsea (75m).
As others have said. Our biggest problem is not how much we spend. Our financial model is pretty normal for the overwhelming majority of clubs in Europe.
It's been how we spend.
We used to be much better at it, the last 5 years we've been pretty bad at it - or to be more accurate, lots of other clubs wised up and got better at it, whilst we simultaneously got worse.

I was hoping Newcastle would over pay for someone like dele but I think even they are too wise!

Too right. I remember Berbatovs first game in a pre season friendly when he scored twice and the quality was just obvious. Who the hell was our last signing where you could see they just had it after about 10 minutes? Most of them are 'may come good' or 'squad player that can do a job' types.
vdv for sureToo right. I remember Berbatovs first game in a pre season friendly when he scored twice and the quality was just obvious. Where are these figures coming from?
There is some argument against them, or at least their applicability.
Liverpool and City have only needed minor tweeks to their squad for a few years.
Chelsea seem to sell their deadwood for 3 times mkt value.
berbatov in the same bracket as defoe
Think Ndombele came on and scored on his debut.Too right. I remember Berbatovs first game in a pre season friendly when he scored twice and the quality was just obvious. Proper clown buddy for the elite Fortnite player and professional Tiktoker Dele Alli.
MoTM v Villa. Really kicked on from there and never looked back
He’s 29, would want huge wages, doesn’t fit Conte’s structure at all and is in many ways duplicative of Adama Traore, but hey, at least he’s a bang average player :contefacepalm2:
Put him on ignore a while ago. the ranting and raving and endless conspiracy theory comments got too much.transfermarkt. See the linkArcspacE originally quoted.
There is some truth in that teams like City might not have needed to spend huge in the last 3 years, but not Liverpool or anyone else. They needed to spend if they were to maintain a title challenge and didn't and are now out of it, for the second year running. And the same logic can be applied in reverse to some of those teams that outspent us in that ten year period, teams that needed to spend huge to try and stay in the PL, and/or bridge a massive gap to teams like us duking it out for CL places (Everton, AV, Palace, WH etc etc).
Bottom line, we spend OK/good for a normal football model, problem is we haven't spent particularly smart the last few years. And to rub salt in that, others have wised up and improved their recruitment processes.
