Yes, there is doubt. Go ask Juventus fans what they think about Paratici and the state he left them in. And of course they've not been good since he left, they're saddled with all his shit or mediocre signings in the team with no money because their wages are fucking them over!

Yes, they are. But they were successful abroad. Paratici completely fucked over Juventus in many ways in an easier environment, but we expect him to be a success at Spurs based on what? A reputation that is out of date? At one point he was rated very highly, but not when he joined us.

We shifted to Emerson because he suddenly became available IIRC. I highly doubt we gave Nuno any power in the market, why would we? You saw how quickly he was sacked, this was not a manager who was given backing or respect by the club. He was there because we (at the time) couldn't get Conte.
Paratici developed a well deserved reputation for scouting and making deals as Beppe Marotta’s #2 man at Juve and before that Sampdoria.

When he was elevated to CEO and was more in control of the big picture, he still showed an eye for a player (McKennie and Chiesa most prominently) but his overarching management wasn’t great, especially sacking Allegri for no good reason.

That’s what’s so frustrating about Hitchen still being here. Hitchen’s scouting role is exactly where we want Paratici to have his hands in the dough.

Well the “how” is banning them from the Champions League. Which is a real punishment under whatever framework you use to look at these clubs.

And the rules don’t impact the existing petro clubs because they’ve crossed the bridge into being massive money spinners, fake sponsorships aside. The rules protect the aristocracy, which they’ve already bought their way into.

City got in trouble for their practices even as a fully functional superclub, but there’s no question their rise in 2010-12 would have violated not-yet-existant FFP.

Plus Newcastle are in worse shape and the price of players has massively inflated.

The equivalent move would be for them to go out and buy 5-6 60M plus players in the summer. And then do it again the next summer, until the league is theirs. I don’t think that’s what will happen, I think they’ll have to make do with a level of on-paper financial losses that keeps UEFA off their ass. They by no means need or plan to operate “sustainably” but there’s now a purported outer limit to plunging outside financing into the club. We’ll see, time will tell.
Eh, all they have to do is buy the stars and UEFA has an immediate vested interest in not banning them from the CL. UEFA isn't cutting off its nose to spite its face which is why they always threaten CL expulsion then reel their necks in and settle for a fine or a transfer embargo window after next (yanno, to give the club ample time to just go ahead and buy early).

The fake sponsorships will give them ample room to outspend any that isn't doping, while staying inside the stupidly easy to navigate lane of FFP.

The alternative is UEFA/PL demanding to review accounts of all sponsoring organizations to ensure they're "fair market" sponsorships. And that sure as fuck ain't happening.

Money is the python that's going to squeeze the life out of football - or, honestly, already has done. Once it locked on, its just a matter of when, not if. Not even worth pretending that the finance investors that have seized clubs like United, Spurs, Woolwich et al are any better. They're just a different breed of snake.

And the supporters are complicit as well. We enable it because we want to watch the Ronaldos. Its the 21st century and dead easy to stream anything. We could all say "nah, fuck em" and pour our money and attention into non-league clubs. But we want to see "the best".

Honestly, TFC and arguing with everyone here are the only reason I haven't turned off already. Because its all a soulless sham at this point. I'd rather watch/listen to Dag & Red than this corrupt broken shite that is the PL and UEFA.

Roll on ESL. And leave little old Spurs out this time.

Not defending Paraciti here (I really dont know what to think of him), but what you describe of Emerson is the exact MO which ENIC have been running for years and years.

As it; it doesn't seem like we do scouting nor planning nor vetting at all.

The hard part about judging what he did at Juve is that the good stuff all came under Beppe Marotta, many of the big issues came after Beppe left to Inter and won the league with them.

I doubt that it was 100% Marotta and Paratici just crap the whole time and that he did some quality things, but looking at the two years he was at Juve without Marotta and the summer he just had there is so many red flags, and very few (if any) positives.
These things are always more complicated than the legend but two things Paratici gets plaudits for under Marotta are pushing for Pirlo on a free when the football world thought he was past his best, and wrestling through the agent and sponsorship bullshit to make the shock Ronaldo move possible.

He’s a sharp character, whether he’s a CEO is another question.

- A part of me wouldn't mind the Sky 4 pissing off to the ESL never to be seen again

- Why would any kid, parental brainwashing aside, in London choose to support Spurs? Because of Levys soundbites of "ambition"? If he has money to go to premium games, Chelsea or Woolwich have so much more to show for their efforts. If no money, it would probably be much much more exciting to drop fown 2-3 leagues and get excellent memories with AFCW or whoever.

This. And therin lies the reason we are so utterly shit in the market, its all who a favoured agent is touting rather than thought through, scouted, what the team needs.

Why would any agent with good players come to deal with Spurs? Spurs would be the last club on your list. Thats why we never get anyone.

We'll fuck you around for months. Agree a deal then move the goalposts at the last minute or cancel altogether and waste your time. Word is obviously out on Levy.

That’s exactly what did happen with City.

And UEFA handed them a two-year CL ban.

Yada yada yada, long story, but the architecture is there.

Not that the US Soccer world isn’t its own disgusting plutocratic farce, but support your local, man.

Well Levy's game has been up for years there is only so long you can get away with doing this, before other clubs, agents, players and certainly fans of this club are bored with it.

it does seem the more you read about him he is very good with the agents, which is also why I think a lot of Italian journalists go to bat for him as well as it seems he is good at that PR/schmoozing aspect of the business.

And I am also sure he has had successes like you say with Pirlo, my concern is that overall there isn't much that we can see to point to him having clear success outside of Marotta and plenty to point to him not having success.

I probably go too far to the he is bad when the reality is he is unproven but I think the clear position that isn't backed up is that he is good and should get a ton of benefit of the doubt as the "don."

I whole heartedly want City, Newcastle, Chelsea, United, and Liverpool to piss off to the ESL. Even if it means they take the gooner cunts along as the misfits. I've said for years, a Spurs competing in a British League (surely it would be the impetus to bring Rangers and Celtic into the fold) would suit me just fine. Even if I had to pay a premium to get a second rate streaming experience. At least we'd be well shot of the Neville's of the world. Competing with Everton, Celtic, Rangers, Villa, etc. for an actual fucking trophy thats not prebought? Fuck me, does that ever sound great.

Spurs are the only London club without a cringey as fuck supporter base. Thats why they attract the non-London fans, by and large. Anyone without a conscience is a Chelsea fan, unless they came to the sport in the mid-00s in which case they drank the Wenger kool aid. Tottenham feels like the right thing to do, and they always feel like they're on the cusp so you feel like you're buying Netflix stock right before they dumped DVDs and launched the streaming revolution.

I'm a season ticket holder at 901FC which share ownership with Dag & Red (which is how I landed with the poxy far East London club to begin with). We're fucking shit and play in a baseball stadium with a pitching mound lump in the left side of the box. But I go and drink beer.

poch doesn't get enough stick for those 2 signings.

Levy did him a solid that transfer window and gave him those 2 wasters.
Levy had utterly shafted Poch in pretty much every window prior to that one though so I think Poch could be cut some slack, he simply had to back him in 2019.

And tbf, Ndombele was one of if not the most sought after midfielder in Europe that summer. Nobody really could have predicted what an absolute disaster of a transfer it would turn out to be.
