Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So you expect every signing to work? Completely unrealistic.

Our success rate on signings the last few seasons has been unquestionably excellent.

This is why some can't take you seriously..
Where did I say that I expect every signing to work?

My point was there is a certain brand of signing that Levy excels at, we all know it. Its the £12-£15m pound youngster with "Potential"

It's out of the same playbook as the French winger on loan.

He makes these signings to pad out windows, throwing darts at a board hoping he hits the next Gareth Bale or Dele

Honestly, do you even understand how the club is working right now? Do you understand how our scouting works and what we are looking for in players?

You have two absolutely phenomenal youngsters who are regular first-team starters right now in Sarr and Udogie who, in my opinion, perfectly encapsulate our transfer tactics at present.

Literally, no one is. saying that we haven't bought duds in the past - we quite clearly have, but your refusal to move with the times and recognise the progress we are making as an outfit is just stubborn. pig-headed nonsense.

Not a single team on the planet gets every signing right. Every single team takes punts on young talent....

When we don't and some other team happens to get lucky one of their punts goes to plan - it's a case of 'we should be taking more chances with those types of signings'.

5 points can easily be made up, we have Spammers, Utd, all the top 4, Brighton, Utd a whole host of difficult games, again far too early to talk about definite top 5

Do those below us not have those fixtures?

You're trying to downplay Poch achievements, the fact is if we scrap a champions league place this season everyone will be happy. As for fluking our way to a champions league final, that's one of the best and most prestigious cup runs that you're down playing. History will show whether Ange is a better manager for us than those two, he has the potential to be but he hasn't achieved anything yet.

I've never downplayed Pochettinos achievements. He overachieved our expectations and underachieved with the squad he had. Simple as that.

But I'm also not afraid to tell people his last 9 months at this club domestically was fucking shambolic. And that's why he was sacked.

Yeah but you can’t win. On the other side people complain we didn’t get Maddison at Norwich, or Alex Scott at Bristol or eze at QPR or Olise at Reading…

We get quoted 80M for Olise and you hear ‘why didn’t we get him when he was pulling up trees at Reading’

Go for Spence ‘why are we buying these punts who aren’t ready! typical Levy always buying POTENTIAL’

Etc

Bullshit of the highest order

We were going after Maddison the season prior - Conte did not want him

I would actually tend to agree with you!

I’m more on the side of we made signings last summer that had been needed for years (Maddison being one) but didn’t make any serious effort to either replace Kanes goals or strengthen the squad significantly with the money.

Vic, VDV, Maddison should have been signings we made regardless of the Kane money.

Yes, which is why it's too early to say we will definitely reach top 5

You said he fluked his way to a CL final and practically ignored he got 4th in his last season. It's more than a shame we didn't win a league cup or two but who would have thought we would get to a CL final after not buying one single player that summer? Nobody.

Yet he was still the most successful manager under ENIC during that time, so again what better did you expect than 4th place and had he not done enough during his time to deserve more time?

Tbh dier had 1 top season with us under poch. Should have accepted 50m bid from united though. Maguire and dier at the back for them. Imagine that. 😀
Dier is a DM that refuses to accept he's a DM.

His best performances for us were as a DM, when Walker and Rose pushed on he dropped into a third CB. But was mostly a DM.

He's not terrible in a back three. But heavily exposed in a two.

It goes back to speed for me. He was never that fast to begin with but he read the game well. I don't think he has the mobility to play in the midfield anymore.

Even when he played DM here, he basically dropped back between Toby and Jan so our fullbacks could fly up the wings.

Back three suits him best as either the CCB or RCB
