Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Hi, my name is Federico Redondo. I'm 20 yo and to date I've played 35 league games, of which 19 have been starts. My first season I played an average of 30 mins and in my second, 60. My team is a midtable side in Argentina.

And yet, cause my dad was a superhero, there are some on TFC who see me as the next big thing. I should be replacing Bissouma and I'm in the same category as WZE, even though the PSG wunderkind has over 50 league games to his name + a regular starter in the CL + now playing for France.

Pal, I'm not having a go at you and I ain't saying the great Fernando (one of my all-time favourites) has a dud for a kid but come on, let's be real...the vast majority of those talking about him know nothing about the kid and all they've seen is his HL reel.

Dig deeper and it seems pretty clear & obvious (no need for VAR) that he isn't yet ready for the top level and that unless he suddenly gets hit by a magic lightning bolt, he's at the bare minimum 3 years away from being in the convo for a role in a team like ours, let alone a starring one.
I feel like you could apply that to 90% of the posters for 90% of transfer links...

For the first time in.....well, first time ever actually, Spurs have done most of their business in the transfer market early. As a result the transfer thread is going to get weird. Really fucking weird.

Yesterday we were discussing the merits of different farm animals - mainly Sheep vs Goats - today we have moved onto the Nando's of homegrown central midfielders.

None of it makes sense and it's only going to get worse from here.
If Oliver Skipp is Mcdonalds does that make Gallagher Burger King or Five Guys? Because personally if we're not out there shopping for Five Guys level midfielders I simply can't sign off on it.

That's Levy's fault. Fuck him the bald cunt. Or something to that effect.

I can’t see anyone taking a chance on Sessegnon apart from if The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists need a training aid!
He's shocking defensively, his best chance of playing regular football is moving up the pitch to LW and trying to become a traditional out-and-out winger, though he's going to end up going down levels to find a club that wants one of those. Might need a standout season in the champo to find his way back to a PL team. Needs to stop being so gunshy if that's the move though, seemed to get into good positions but never pull the trigger on the cross or pass when he played LB for us.

No thanks.

Tottenham may have been handed their chance to sign summer target Gift Orban on the cheap, with KAA Gent now open to a sale.

That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who cover the player today and how the decision not to sell in the summer has come back to haunt the Belgian side.

They explain that the former Promise of the Year had the chance to move in the summer window, with Lille making him a priority to replace Jonathan David, Tottenham in the mix because their scouts were ‘convinced’ and Fulham making a bid after losing Aleksandr Mitrovic.

Gent, though, resisted all bids as, bolstered by a capital injection of €11m from brand new owner Sam Baro, they didn’t need the money from a sale.

They were convinced Orban could build on his highly impressive first season and keep his value rising so demanded €30m, a figure which no club, even Tottenham with the money from Harry Kane’s sale, wanted to pay.
Orban remained but has struggled ever since. The goal machine has ‘stalled’, even in training, with 12 goals in 29 games in all competitions considered a big drop off given he managed 20 in 22 last season.

That’s seen his market value plummet, with him now valued at €15m by the likes of Transfermarkt, and Eintracht Frankfurt recently quoted €20m by Gent.

According to HLN the Belgian side are now ‘open to a sale’ in this market, albeit if they can get the right price and find a replacement first.

Thus, the opportunity is there for Tottenham to potentially get their man. Their scouts were reportedly ‘convinced’ by the striker when watching him last season, it was only his price that stopped a deal happening.

That figure has now dropped considerably and with their forward like still lacking an out and out striker, Orban could still fit the bill and now fall into the budget too.

Of course, his drop in goal ratio isn’t a positive but then, who better to get him firing than Ange Postecoglou, the man who has apparently revived the struggling Richarlison?

No thanks.

He's only scored 3 in the Belgian league this season, if his head has gone because he didn't get the move he wanted in the summer then I don't think he's got the kind of mentality to fit with our group tbh. Definitely a "wait and see" player, if he's up for peanuts he's probably not worth it anyway.

Hard pass..wasn't convinced when he was on fire. He has talent but very very raw.

I watched some full matches of him this past summer and he looked completely useless for 99% of the match. Short as fuck offering no holdup play whatsoever. Literally just a goal hanger with a big appetite for shots. Cannot believe our fans were twerking for him those were dark dark days.

I absolutely love Maddison and think he’s a way more exciting watch than Eriksen.

But to be fair he’s played 11 games for us.

Eriksen had a total of 160 goal contributions in 305 games and made us tick in our best couple of seasons in ages, and peaked at a 100 million market valuation.

I think your conclusion is perhaps a bit premature, but it’s in line with the tendency on here to evaluate Eriksen on the basis of his 2 last (underwhelming) seasons.
This isn't Maddison's first season in the Prem. He had 19 g/a last season in 30 matches for a relegated team.

Yep.

I've been thinking of it in terms of elements.

Since Son, Biss and Sarr are out, we're missing three particles (one positive (attack) and two negatively charged, defence), making us an unstable isotope looking for new partners to provide stable chemistry. Some samples are being tested:

Gallagher is like oxygen. Boring, but everyone needs someone like him to get shit done. He's highly reactive as he has a lot of bonding opportunity, but since he's a servant to all, his loyalty is suspect.

Dragusin is like silver. It might not be the most shiny of new toys, but it's got class and cleans up a lot of unpleasant shit before it turns bad. Hopefully he also won't mind being left in the cupboard 'for best'.

We're also missing a positively-charged proton, thanks to a high-energy collision with January.

Werner is like sodium; popping and fizzing without much control. Fuck it, chuck him in there and grab the popcorn Sure, it might not last, but at least it will be fun!

Dier was a neutron. So, yeah, we're good.

Reguilon's contract ends in June 2025, hop the loan includes an obligation to buy at a sensible price (eg £30m+ for a Spanish international PL experienced LB is not unreasonable )

Nobody is going to pay that for Reguilon. A player who is sent back early from their loan is not worth £30m. We can probably get £10m for him, which is fair. He has been injured for most of the last 18 months and Conte, Simeone, Ange and Ten Hag haven’t been impressed with him.
