Yeah, start of the season so 2 5th place finishes were written off because of 1 or 2 poor results. I doubt Jol could have pushed us on much further but it was a shoody, piss poor way of doing it and he's tenure was dead in the water from that moment. So its unfair to mention the first 10 games as he'd been so undermined. If they had so little faith it should have been done end of 06/7.

I don't think they were written off. I think he had a falling out with the people who decide the future direction of the club and they decided he wasn't the man to take us to the next level.

Nothing more, nothing less. Jol was a good manager for what we needed at the time and I will always love him. Took us from middling nothing to hopers. But that was it. He was never good enough to take us further.

But the comparison between Spurs under Jols tenure and getting sacked to Ange and finishing 5th are just ridiculously stupid.

If the overall point is that we should have got another CB in which would have given us a better chance in the league then no-one in their right mind is going to disagree with that and I certainly wasn't, this was my point and this is what he responded to hence why the debate kicked off:
IIRC Ange said in the summer when questioned about another CB, that if we can’t bring in the correct profile of player he didn’t want one.

Enjoy your last window here. I’ll miss this kind of insight.
You have hardly been around these last few weeks while we've been winning have you gooner?
Every club has pressing needs, every other club needs to fix issues with their first team, we don't.
The game hasn't been about first teams for decades its all about squads. Hence our problems in recent weeks, but you've had your head so far up your own ass huffing your own farts you've clearly not noticed.

Are you advising Levy? that would explain a lot

Have you missed the part of the season where we've missed Romero due to suspensions and injury, missed van de Ven, Bentancur and Maddison for half of it, injuries to Sarr and Richarlison and the suspensions of Udogie and Bissouma?

Yet we're still 5th....

We have Romero, van de Ven, Maddison all to return from injury in the second half of the season. Son, Bissouma and Sarr to come back from international duty...

It most definitely sounds a little negative.
Not at all but the season doesn't finish now, we're only in January far too early to say yes we will definitely in whatever position, with so many teams still close together.
That's fine. I'll tag you when we do just to confirm the certainty.

That was because of Jol not getting on with Commoli more than anything though, we wanted to start acting like a proper club with a DoF and Jol wanted to sign his own players. Pretty sure we only started to talk to Ramos after the terrible start to the season too.

Either way, 17 years ago was a long time ago and we're light years ahead now than we were back then when getting the likes of Juande Ramos (who was highly thought of at the time) seemed like a step we needed to take to really go to the next level Jol was never going to take us.

We aren't going to sack Ange for finishing 5th when you consider the season we had with injuries, suspensions and losing the clubs greatest goalscorer. Don't be silly 😂
It was a disgusting way to treat a manager that had taken us 5th, the highest position at the time in ENIC's history.

Poch was sacked after he took us to the CL final, fourth place and a league cup semi the previous season, When he was sacked he had only lost 3 games,

I need to stop being so subtle, didn't think I'd need to spoon-feed such a basic argument to you. :)

None of our rivals with more or equal needs to us have concluded transfers as of yet, that probably tells you more about the market as opposed to us.

In fact you could argue that clubs are in more precarious and make/break positions than us who are most probably working on deals now.

Not sure how people can disagree with the truth but there you go, sign of the times I guess. Some don't like Facts!

Our squad is in desperate need of reinforcements but no, let's fuck around and act as if we have already written off the season.

It doesn't - but it certainly gives you a decent barometer of what's to happen.

We are 5th having played with half of our squad out, despite knowing that with our squad fully fit, we were topping the league... We have half of our squad returning within the next 30 days, going off the information we have, that tells us that something pretty drastic would have to happen for us to slip up now.

It was a disgusting way to treat a manager that had taken us 5th, the highest position at the time in ENIC's history.

It was.

However, the writing was always going to be on the wall. Martin Jol was a great man manager, a good coach. But he was never going to take us to that next level and at the time that is exactly what the owners were wanting.

Poch was sacked after he took us to the CL final, fourth place and a league cup semi the previous season, When he was sacked he had only lost 3 games,

Pochettino was sacked because his form for 9 months was fucking shite.

24 games
6 wins
7 draws
11 losses

An average of 1.04 points per game over a 24 game period when things didn't look like they were going to get any better. Over a 38 game season, that's barely enough to survive relegation. Won just 1 away game between 20th January 2018 until when he was sacked.

Unfortunately, it's a results business in the long run and our final 12 months under Pochettino, despite the flukey CL run was fucking miserable. Sadly, it didn't get any better because Mourinho, Nune, Conte followed.

Thank god we managed to get beyond that now and we're finally enjoying things again.

The fact that ten times the business gets done in summer would rather suggest to anyone who isn’t a moron that January transfers are, indeed, harder.

Impactful players are scarce and at a premium. There are fewer sellers and buyers need to decide whether they can integrate a new signing into the team and whether the reward outweighs the risk.
In our case, we have a glaring need to add CB cover due to a summer window that left us short. That was a strategic mistake. If we add another (impactful) player (at LW perhaps?) then I’ll be both surprised and delighted.
