Obviously hard to spunk £50m on a player and not give him a decent amount of game time. I'd say CG would be alongside Biss and Sarr in the pecking order. Behind Madders. And I suspect soon also behind Bent (as Bent recovers his brilliance).
We're all acting on supposition not knowing whether or not the rumour has any substance. FWIW it's not really relevant if we as fans see him as any better or worse to the incumbents but rather why would Ange (if true) waste his time pursuing this type of player if he believed we already had someone comparable or better in situ?

Does seem harsh to find yourself punished twice over 2/3s of the same accounting period.... In theory, if the 2nd of the 3 years (i.e. 20/21 season) is where the key losses took place, then you're effectively being punished for it twice.

Not really. The three year rolling system actually gives you two years each time to claw back losses. The rule on this is simple and has some logic to it. The fact that Everton were about 200m+ over the first time was horrendous and they’ve had effectively 2-3 years to correct it and still failed.

And yet mostly we will never have everyone available. If next season we have Europe we will have a fuck ton of games. We need 6-7 midfielders of high quality for 3 spots. Even if we don’t have injuries we play hard so will need to sub and rotate a lot.

Next year we will have Lo Celso with 1 year left and is always injured, Hojbjerg works hard but doesn’t fit and wants out, Skipp did well yesterday but probably doesn’t fit.

if nothing changes we could have 3 free spots in midfield. Maybe 1 of Devine or Donley take a spot, that still leaves 1-2 spots to go.

It might be Gallagher, it might be Wharton whoever but clearly we want another CM.
