Ex-Spurs Player Joe Rodon

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No, we don't play exactly the same way as Wales, but we do both play 3 CD...
I'm not saying it's the same thing, but it is a defensive formation that Rodon is not only familiar with, but thrives in at International level ...

I guess I'm just confused as to why a young, International, Central defender, familiar with a back 3, is being ushered out the door, in the hope we sign a better young, international central defender, familiar with playing in a back 3....

Maybe the problem is he doesn't see himself as a back up, and thinks he should be starting, (because of all those International Caps maybe?) ...whereas Conte sees him more as a back up, despite all those International Caps....!
Agree yea get another quality cb but why get rid of someone who cost £12 and actually ok. Why spend potentially another £50m to get someone from another league?
We need to upgrade rwb and cm much more.

Christ ! Rodon cost 12 quid , bloody good bargain that! Haha
Well he is a full international and going to the WC. Will be great experience. I don’t see the point of buying players like Rodon from lower leagues for their potential and then not giving them a chance. Surely we should be able to develop that potential?
We can’t always buy £50M players like citeh chavs manure and toon. One or two may be but we do need to unearth some hidden gems as well. Even dippers have some great bargain buys like robo and home grown like Trent.

Skipp basically did the same, coming from the championship and impressed enough from the get go to become one of our most important players.

Well he can just fuck off then....
Money grabbing wage thief fraud rat cunt!

He's obviously doing something wrong at club level, that he clearly puts right when playing for Wales... Maybe it's a Welsh thing... Maybe he's taken advice from Bale!!!!

ANYWAY, he looks like Joe Hart's & Dele's love child... So fuck him!

He's off my Christmas card list, that's for sure!

Yes, it's called playing for Wales instead of Spurs. If he played for Bournemouth like Mepham, he'd be getting games at club level too. Playing for an underdog, highly organised international team which usually gets most men behind the ball in games is very different from playing for a CL level Premier League team regularly.

He's a high championship, low PL level CB. Not a terrible player but not good enough for us.

People also seem to be ignoring the fact that he has actually played for us a few times and been shaky at best.

The chelsea game under mou which we drew 0-0, but he gave away a potential free goal by doing a chance with a backpass to Lloris (IIRC), and then under Conte in the conference league he was fucking wank against Mura or something.

He's also never had a notable performance to make up for that either. He's supposed to be top quality at headers but beyond that he's not shown any specific trait to get excited about, e.g. Sanchez and his pace, Foyth and ability to get forward.

A lot of fuss without anything to back it up with.

He hasn't had much game time so it's tricky us fans making an assessment. What does speak volumes is the manager's refusals to commit him to the starting eleven on a regular basis. That doesn't necessarily mean he's a crap defender - he seems good enough for Wales - but maybe he's not very adaptable or able to do what their asking of him.

Whatever the situation is, he's clearly not the right fit for us and needs moving on pronto.

Whilst I like the idea of this, aren't we simply repeating the trick with Rodon...?

A low risk punt, that if it doesn't work out, we move him on/loan him out...
And if he's the next Franco Baresi, then BINGO, we got him for peanuts!

...will Ronnie Edwards be THE one this time?!!

BTW, didn't wanna start a "Have we signed...." thread, as it strikes me that it comes across as a bit entitled, presumptions, and dare I say, a little spoilt!

We paid £11m for Joe and he has been at the club almost 2 years.
We won't lose much if we sell and may even make a prof.
Still only 24 so maybe a loan and make our minds up next season?

I also cannot understand why he has not played more for us. not watched his Wales performances but he defends well but maybe it is lack of distribution that is the problem. I cannot say I can recall what he was like in playing out from the back but that is the only thing I can think of. I would rather get rid of Sanchez and keep Rodon.

You kind of answered your own question here. We have to take some low risk punts and hope we hit on enough to make it worth it.

Our rivals (city, United, old Chelsea) have more money than us so we will never consistently match them by buying the best players. Because they will just buy more and eventually will get it right. Whereas a miss for us (like ndombele and lo celso) hurts us for several years.

Can't say I've ever seen him do much wrong ... Just a decent center bac.....will he develop and take diets spot?.... Cos thats the only one he possible could contest... Honestly .... Not in the foreseeable... But let's not forget... Were ONLY as good as the competition in our training sessions.. the starters need to be pressed/challenged daily....But if I was him at 24 i'de be wanting to start/play ...so that means either a loan or a sale... Me i'de like a recallable season loan. Him, I'm quessing...if a prem team came in for him he'd want a perm move..shame..

He’s really not very good. None of the last 4 managers all of which were defensive managers liked him. That should probably give the internet mangers a Clue
