Ex-Spurs Player Joe Rodon

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Their option doesn't mean the player has to agree.

If we accept an offer from Bournemouth for 25m, Rodon can choose to go there regardless of Leeds' option.
Actually it does. IIRC, options are only finalised once the player agrees on wages going forward. As with Werner for us - wages terms will have already been agreed.

Whether there is a clause for Rodon is another matter. Can't see anything about it online.

I still think there's a good player there at premier league level. We'll have a lot of games next season and I'd personally be happy to keep him around and give him minutes. Looked to me like he could play out and read the game well with good positioning to get blocks in.
Not for me. He's showed he's a solid player but being a good Champ CB is so far away from the requirements of CL level centre backs, particularly in possession. Take the money and use it on someone we'll actually use.

if you're only counting players with no top-flight experience the record signings the top 3 are:

Joao Pedro - €34m
Jude Bellingham - €30m
Tyler Adams - €26m

............................If Leeds get promoted and he has a blinder in the EPL for a year then it's a different story; all 'bets' are off.
Not sure about that top 3, where did you find that?

Joao Pedro and Tyler Adams both played full seasons in the Prem.

I think Bellingham would have gone for more but he was only on a schoolboy contract. He could have left for just a compensation fee but he and his family had good relations with the club so made an agreement for a future new deal at 17 (even though they knew he was leaving) which meant Dortmund had to pay a transfer fee.

Gray is already on a long pro-deal, young enough to be club-trained if he moves this summer, one of the best of his age-group, played up multiple England youth age-groups, had scouts from all the top clubs in Europe watching him and on top of that has loads of family ties to the club and is happy to stay there. Hard to see anything other than a massive fee

Absolutely not mobile or skilful enough for a team with our aspirations.
It does mean that if Leeds don't get promoted then someone like Forest could buy him.

Shame Leeds missed out but surely he is worth a couple of mill?
I know some posters seems to think a million pounds is chicken feed but I don't.

IMO Leeds are still a contender to buy Rodon, as he was a key player for them last season so they need to either pay up for them or buy another player of equivalent quality to help them get into contention for PL next season.

Extending his contract is just another way of saying we are not selling him cheap to Leeds or anyone else.

I'd be quite happy to use him to get Archie Gray in at a reasonable price - and that is not the £50m or £40m that Leeds are leaking as a sale price for a youngster with one season playing in Championship - Wharton (now in E euros squad) going from Blackburn to Palace at £18m is more of a guide. So a swap with Rodon is possible or Rodon plus a few million (£5m/£10m absolute max, ).

Won’t be 5m, he’s a home grown star that’s over five years younger with ties to their club. This is one where you have to buy big to get it done….. money in hand gives them more financial flexibility to manoeuvre and free up other signings. They will 100% want Rodon and a swap works but would guess 25M on top. Rodon is fully depreciated, he’s likely not on our balance sheet so I would imagine we can be creative….. perhaps standalone deals are better for us. We bank 15M for Rodon in one and get to stretch 40M for Gray over five years

Leeds may want £x million for Gray but given Wharton ( a more experienced player in Championship) cost £18m on his transfer from Blackburn to Palace, there is no way anyone should believe we are paying £25m (more than Wharton cost by himself) plus a player to get Gray.

Rodon is probably a £15 m - £20m by himself, which is why if Leeds want and value him (as has been said in recent months) than even a few million plus Rodon would make Gray one of the most expensive players bought from the Championship - players more expensive would include Spurs buying Madison for circa £40m from a relegated Leicester, but Madison vastly more experienced than Gray.

Of course if Leeds don't want to sell Gray then no deal is possible. Rodon has a decent record for a Championship/lower PL side so other clubs will be suitors

If Leeds want to accept a £25m offer (of Rodon plus £5m - £10m) for Gray it gets them the defensive leader they had this year plus money to buy another decent player for the championship (and as they have other RBs at the club they can choose which other positions to reinforce). Ball in their court
