Ex-Spurs Player Kyle Walker

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Like all players who decide to leave us for the dosh, he's dead to me. I won't boo him but I certainly won't welcome him back either. I will save my praises for the players who want to play and be successful with us.

Did 98% of our past players leave for more money?
No, but if they were all in demand you can bet they would have. Other than Ledley, who, in the last 20 years, can you name who was an in demand player and rejected bigger clubs to stay at Spurs and be a one club man? Zero is the answer. Every player we've had who the big clubs came knocking for wanted to leave for the big bucks and the bigger trophies. This idea of club loyalty is as outdated as typewriters. With a few exceptions here and there, the vast majority of players in the modern game have no loyalty and will go where it is best for them financially and trophy wise. It makes me laugh that, without fail, every season fans delude themselves into thinking a great deal of footballers really care about playing for one club only. Kane may turn out to be a rare exception, but if he is he'll be the only one for years who would be.

I agree.

I know in the real world players will always chase the big bucks but doesn't mean I have to like it

Stay classy, giving Walker stick but most of you wouldn't mind slimy Rose rolling into the starting XI after slagging us of in an interview.
Walker didn't push for this, at least not publicly, and he acted like a mature football player (which he is). don't be knobs.

I wouldn't be so certain about the point in bold, or pretending that he has been classy or mature for that matter. They both have the same agent. Neither he or his manager respects ours and they are actively fighting against us for the league. No one is a knob for defending Spurs first over Walker. He has given out stick about fans in the past and made unneeded comments about his ex club while competing so he can certainly take it back. I didn't want the situation to happen either but he has gone and I'm not betting on Poch to release an autobiography in 20 years that exonerates him in any way.

Fuck's sake. Had forgotten that he was a likeable (if possibly brainless at times) chap.

Of all the players that could have pulled what he did, it still surprises me for some reason that it was him.
:avbshock:

I actually wasn't surprised that he went. Thought he may have gone the season before.
His age and "last big payday" with the club not quite in the situation with the stadium build etc.

I assumed it was an agreement with himself and the club.
The manner in which it happened was a surprise though and for that he will forever be a cunt.

He's certainly less of a cunt, at least in public, than most footballers. Very hard to dislike, honestly.

Don't really hold his move against him - it was a punch in the gut and I hope we win everything, give everyone big pay rises, and it all blows up in his face....but I don't begrudge him his personal decision.

And to be honest, I'm not even sure it pissed me off that much how things went with Poch's revelations. For sure, the ideal result in that scenario would be him knuckling down and pouring his heart out to win a trophy before exiting. But the worst scenario would be him just saying nothing, going out with no fight in him, and costing us. At least he owned up when he'd checked out and let Poch know so that Trippier could be played instead.

Just don't feel wounded by it, and as the games click by it's thought of even less. Few seasons from now I'm sure we'll just remember Walker as that nice chap we turned into a footballer and sent up north for a pile of cash , ho-hum.

I just listened to the podcast and I like their take on it.
Walker didn't intentionally try to hurt the club. He went to Poch before agents, etc got involved.
Poch told him he handled it wrong.

As you say it hasn't done us any harm this season but just maybe it did last season.

Pod from the start of the week? Because yeah, listening to their points I actually agree.

It'll still be fucking horrible if/when we see him lifting that PL trophy aloft with a shit eating grin on his face. At least when Bale and Modric fucked off, there was a certain disconnect between their Spanish accolades/CL winners medals and us. Not so with the Premier League.

Yeh that's the one.
As you say (and them) it would validate his move to City if he won the league the year after he left us.
Can imagine the headlines already :(

If he’s that bothered about WHL, he shouldn’t have walked about looking like his cat had just died at the farewell.

.... Must have been an extremely solumn and sobering occasion being amidst that atmosphere knowing he was off... Even if he was driven to leave, prob still left him second guessing himself.

Even though it didn't play out to our satisfaction, it does appear to me that by speaking to Poch about an exit before his agent he hoped to do things the 'right way'.

Think we need to just move on.
