You obviously haven't been on here for very long, have you? My post was supposedly sarky and maybe funny?
At this moment in time, I'm having a difficult time with handling the coverage that they are going to get, and just their name is enough to cause the heckles to rise. I still haven't got over our failure to get going in the CL final against them, and the fact that they have gone on to better things is just rubbing salt in the wounds.
I know I'm being an ostrich but my way of dealing with is not to watch the news or buy a newspaper for the next month or so, hopefully by then, it will have died down a bit!
Sorry, I wasn’t really trying to have a go. It’s just the extent to which the two clubs have gone in opposite directions since the CL Final last year is truly stunning - but depressingly so - not a surprise. One club has an ownership that has the vision and commitment to push on from the disappointment of the previous season - whilst the other, clearly, doesn’t.

thanks for that, just had enough of Scouse talk already, and wanted to avoid any reference like the plague.

If you are a massive club and consistently spend big and pay big wages you'll eventually strike the right balance and win the league, Manchester Utd will also win this way eventually.
Every time Levy says money doesn't guarantee trophies as a reason why we may not be spending I want to throw myself out of the window.

No, it's not a guarantee otherwise United would win every year, but let's stop acting like its not obviously and clearly connected, especially wages.

You hear stories of Mane and a few other players that Spurs were interested in but we weren't willing to meet wage demands. Now there may be totally legitimate reasons for this, especially a few years ago when our turnover was significantly lower and our highest paid player was Kane/Lloris at £100k/week, but it doesn't change the fact that Spurs have missed out on great players over the past few years because of our wage structure that was in place at the time.

Current pandemic aside, Spurs are now positioned to pay competitive, non-incentive based wages. The stadium debt is inconsequential, and we have a lot of other commercial potential that is still unrealized.

Smart scouting/modern analytics and a willingness to pay wages and swing big on occasion is the best way to to it for clubs that don't have unlimited funds (City, United, Chelsea).

It's pretty obvious that we should have pushed on a couple years back when we were heads and shoulders above Liverpool if we wanted to remain a title contender. Although I understand why we didn't as the stadium was being built and it wouldn't have made sense for them financially.

I think Liverpool have been very lucky that their big investments have all paid off - we've invested a lot of money on flops over the years where they have had a hell of a lot of hits.

We need a top quality right back, left back, centre back, central defensive midfielder and centre forward (who can alternate with Kane and play alongside if appropriate) whilst retaining the players that they would replace as squad depth. That's £200m straight off the bat.

I just don't think Levy/ENIC will ever drop the £200m(ish) net in a transfer window that is needed to take us to the next level. I find their stance surprising given the fact that they've gone through all the effort of creating arguably the best football stadium in the world along with arguably the best training facilities in the world - it doesn't match up. Maybe their model will change in the next few years once they've had a few seasons of increased ticket sales/our brand has spread further etc. Or maybe they're banking on someone coming along and paying an insane amount of money to buy the club.

I'd love for us to push on a bit in the transfer market but can deeply appreciate how much they have done for the club. We're future proof thanks to their investments over the last decade.
Liverpool basically rebuilt their entire squad in 3 years and had no busts. This title is more on the squad building by the club than Klopp.

The most salutory lesson to be learnt from this is that it all starts from selecting the right Manager. No room for cost cutting or looking for people with 'potential'. Don't look for someone with an ego that's bigger than the club either. Had Levy signed somebody with the passion, drive and ambition of Klopp then fully supported him financially perhaps we would be celebrating today instead of them.

It's no coincidence that 30 years of waiting have ended because they appointed someone who shared the fans hunger. Like it or not it's a pleasure to watch Klopp's relaxed and amiable media style when interviewed in comparison to Mourinho's 'petulant child' whinings and excuse findings.

Who is this mystery guy to bring us success ? I really don't know, but whoever decided at Liverpool that Jurgen was the man for the job played an absolute blinder. Let's find him quick and seek his advice.

Don’t do it to yourselves.

Liverpool have always spent fucking loads, especially on wages. They’re being touted as some geniuses at the moment, but only because they’ve failed for three decades.

We’re not going to win much. Levy and EniC have no interest in really strengthening the team. The Ndombele situation will hardly have improved things.

The most important lesson to be learned is:

Sell your players at their peak value.

Klopp & FSG are not the important parts of the puzzle here. Coutinho is the reason they are where they are.

If he didn’t go to Barcelona For that obscene amount of money then I have no doubt that they would still be a top 6 team not a top 2 one.

Does anyone think/believe that Liverpool winning the title (and the ridiculous notion that anything can be learnt from it) will even register on ENIC's radar? Or will the search for the ultimate glory that is a perfect balance sheet just go inexorably onwards?
We are already learning. We furloughed staff when they did. We made a U turn after they did.

We had a team capable of winning a league title and our market approach was no different to Liverpool. The key difference is they had Klopp arguably the best in the game and we had Pochettinho easily the most overrated in the game. We squandered one of our best teams and the supporter base sat back and said absolutely nothing about the coach and instead applauded him for it.

- No one at the club is irreplaceable.
- Sign in key positions you need.
- Have a system and stick to it.

Probably the key things.

I'm not going to say buy when you're strong - because Liverpool literally just won the league without spending money on a single first team player in the summer. Sound familiar?

No one at the club is irreplaceable if you replace them well. Not Kane, not Son, no one. Liverpool did fantastic business selling arguably their most important player in Coutinho and using that money to bring in a centre half and a goalkeeper for the money, two positions they needed and arguably two of their most important players over the two seasons thats seen them Champions of Europe, Champions of the World and now Champions of England.

Nailed it ! As I said above, it starts with having the "right fit" manager and then backing him to the hilt.

Mane, Salah, Firmino, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Alisson, Keita... I forgot some..

Klopp got them.
What did Poch get in thoose years? Don't be silly, Poch isn't perfect, but that squad needed 2-3 more players.

Are you serious????

Jose's interactions with the media are awesome, even if we lost every game with him as manager at least we would be able to enjoy his interviews. I love watching a Jose press conference or interview.

Klopp is a world class piece of shit. How any can stand him running around on the field, his over the top cheering and making everything about him, his fake tears the other day is beyond me. By far the most unlikable manager in football if not all sports.

You gotta be willing to do what it takes which is spend a lot. 500m more just on wages. Needed a new keeper & CB so broke the world record for both.

and yet we spend £65 million on Tanguay?
