I'm very rarely proud of myself
We’re 10 seasons behind that 2017 team right now - and that is not even counting an ageing Kane

Would take 200-300m to fix - do you genuinely believe the bald cunt would spend that?
All we did was get in the CL for a couple of seasons. We won nothing. We achieved very little. I’m sure we’ll get back to that within ten years. We’ll see who is proved correct over time.

So we get back to where we were within ten years?

Great. So that's 30 years and counting for this man as he approaches his 70th birthday

Praise be to Pochettino.
And 4 Champions league places instead of one

You realise we actually won 3 major European titles before ENIC, right?
You realise that there is only one major European Trophy right? that's why it's called Major and the rest are just Minor.

Nobody is denying our history - we're just pointing out the facts not the fiction.

20 years prior to Enic - average league finish 8.7

20 years under ENIC average finish 5.6

Still need to do better but Joan even a twisted cynic like you should be able to see that it's an improvement ... in the last ten years it's 4.3 so it was still going the right way albeit a bit slowly.

You're actually saying our 3 European titles were minor trophies!!!!

That's disgraceful.

Only the league chamions qualified for the equivalent of the Champions League. But of course, you know that.

Wow. An increase of 3.1 places

20 years Pre ENIC. 1 European Title. 3 FA Cups. 2 League Cups.

20 years with ENIC. 1 league cup.

Not just me Joan every fan, pundit, journalist on the planet .... or are you saying that today winning the Champions League is the same as winning the Europa League?

It's OK to be proud of our achievements we all are - but don't pretend that winning a second grade trophy is the same as winning the big one. League Cup = FA Cup, European Cup = UEFA Cup, nope don't think so.

If you believe that then you must be ecstatic with 6th place, after all winning the CL or the EL are just the same right, so why bother with top four?

Of course not.

But we haven't won the champions league. Before ENIC or with ENIC

Would you agree it's easier to qualify for it now, with 4 places up for grabs than when only the league champions qualified?

Are you claiming the Europa League is not a major trophy?

When we won our European titles it was actually more difficult to qualify for them than it is today.

But of course in those days we priorised winning trophies.
Which is why we won more than we do do now.

I was at many of those finals, and obviously it was far easier to win them when all the big clubs were in the European Cup and DID NOT drop down into the CWC or UEFA Cup

You may have a rose tinted view of football's past, but just look at who we beat to win our trophies

1963 - Rangers - Slovan Bratislava - OFK Beograd - Atletico Madrid
1972 - Keflavik - Nantes - Rapid B - UTA Arad - AC Milan - Wolves
1984 - Drogheda - Feyenoord - Bayern - Austria Wien - Hajduk Split - Anderlecht

then look at our recent CL run:

2019 - Inter Milan - Barcelona - PSV Eindhoven - Borussia Dortmund - Manchester City - Ajax - Liverpool

You seriously telling me that it was more difficult to win those earlier European trophies than it was to reach the CL Final, get a grip Joan.

It's now many, many, many magnitudes harder to win the top trophies either domestically or in Europe than it was forty years ago.

No question are past triumphs were glorious, I was there for 10 of them .... but to win any trophy now would be a far greater achievement, the standards and level of competition are so much higher.

Mathematically it's (roughly) the same number of clubs competing for (roughly) the same number of trophies in any given year.

What has changed is the relative financial might of various clubs, and the importance those clubs put on the various trophies.

As financial might goes, we've lost ground to perhaps five or six clubs on earth who, fair enough, have monopolized the Premier League and Champions League. But of course concurrently we've utterly left in the dust the vast majority of Europe's clubs, even erstwhille major ones (knocking Rangers out in 1963 or Feyenoord in 1984 was no mean feat).

Here's a list of clubs that have played in finals of the FA and UEFA Cups since ENIC took over Spurs:

Deportivo Alaves
Feyenoord
Celtic
Valencia
Marseille
Sporting Lisbon
Sevilla (Six time winners in that span!)
Middlesbrough
CSKA Moscow
Espanyol
Rangers
Shakhtar Donetsk
Werder Bremen
Fulham
Braga
Athletic Bilbao
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk
Southampton
Millwall
Portsmouth
Cardiff City
Everton
Stoke City
Wigan Athletic
Hull City
Aston Villa
Crystal Palace
Watford

We have the financial domination of those sides in exactly the way Man City have over us, even more dramatically in a lot of cases. And not only do we have nothing, can you say with a straight face that we've sincerely sought those honors as a club? Of course we haven't.

You are saying two different things here which both line up ...

Yes no question an elite group of clubs have monopolised not only European Trophies but also their own domestic trophies (even the last eight Mickey Mouse Cups in the UK have been won by City, Utd, and Chelsea)

But "concurrently we've utterly left in the dust the vast majority of Europe's clubs" is also true

Our UEFA coefficient ranking -

2020 Euro Rank 14 National Rank 6

2010 Euro rank 20 National Rank 7

2000 Euro Rank 38 National Rank 8 (accepted that the ban impacts this)

Not sure it's "utterly left in the dust" but we've improved steadily over the last twenty years.

The only thing, and it's MASSIVE, is that we've failed to turn that improvement into trophies. But 'fans' shouldn't pretend we haven't got better, when we very clearly have.
