So only minorities get recognised??? That sounds a bit dictatorial. I am all for Spurs fans whoever they are, as I have said before, however this is just a gimmick by the club and a un-necessary one at that.

Including members of society who are often discriminated against is not a gimmick. Welcoming these people shows acceptance which sends out an important message.

Nothing to do with football, just sucking up to the ever powerful eternally annoying PC brigade.
I support a football team not a fucking political agenda!

I think you're way out of line OldSpur, there hasn't been one player coming out in the professional game for years and the last time that didn't go too well.

I don't think this is a club led thing either, it is from GFSN (Gay Football Supporters Network) getting a group set up for Spurs Fans. I doubt it would have got off the ground had they not got involved.

Who are GFSN?

A voluntary organisation, the GFSN was established in 1989 as a social network for LGB&T football fans across the UK. Since then we have expanded into hosting our own national league and take the lead in tackling homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in football.

The GFSN works to maintain a social network for LGB&T supporters, to encourage inclusive teams for players of all abilities, and to campaign against discrimination in football, with a view to creating a safe and tolerant environment both on and off the pitch.

Looking at it I really don't see what's wrong with this..

I don't see the need to drag this into football (no pun intended). I don't know anyone who has been 'discriminated' against at White Hart Lane. Apart from working class fans being denied the right to support their club in the manner we have for years by over zealous stewards. Maybe the clubs efforts would be better spent addressing that?

You can suspect all you like sunshine. This is a football club not a political toy.
Then you had no business making comments about white hetrosexual English patriotic people.

It was your use of "English" and "patriotic" in particular which gave you away. This thread is about gay people. The other conscious debate surround our club is one of ethnicity and religion. Nationality is irrelevant and is not under discussion.

The fact that you felt the need to bring in nationality stinks of an underlying prejudice of the kind the likes of the Mail and EDL like to promote. If politics were irrelevant you wouldn't have felt the need to purposely point out the hard, put upon white man of the modern era who is losing out left right and centre to everyone else.

I am a patriotic English, white, hetrosexual man. But I don't need a group for any of those reasons because I don't feel under threat or discriminated against for any of them. The same can hardly be said of minorities in this country.

I don't think you are EDL but your stance is, frankly, bollocks.

It's not a gimmick, even if it were, all the club had to do was give it the rubber stamp, no one's human rights have been impinged, it's not even a political point, it's a social group who want to follow spurs and socialise, no worse than 1882 or any other movement.

I mean seriously, if you want to pick a battle with spurs go for stubhub, the safe standing, the over zealous stewards, not this.

I think you're way out of line OldSpur, there hasn't been one player coming out in the professional game for years and the last time that didn't go too well.

I guess you mean "whilst still playing", as the most recent is Thomas Hitzlsperger, although he is sort of retired/bored of football. Anton Hysén came out in 2011, but not sure if he's professional or semi-pro.
Robbie Rogers (LA Galaxy) is an out gay pro though - played for Leeds not so long ago.

And there's also this guy

And to support the full agenda, there's quite a few lesbians in what I assume to be the professional women's game

Gave me away?? oh do me a favour please!! The point i was making was perfectly clear. EDL? are you sure?? ha ha ha
Its perfectly clear to me, but as you will discover - on this board there are a number of posters who can see right into your mind, and detect hidden depravities, through the words you post on TFC, despite the combination of words you chose, never actually saying those things.
You are clearly a rightwing, nationalist, xenophobic homophobe who clearly wants to take over the world and eradicate anyone who thinks differently to yourself.
Its writ in yer werds guv, innit?

The Club is delighted to announce the formation of its first lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGB&T) fan group, in collaboration with the Gay Football Supporters' Network (GFSN), as part of its support for the Football v Homophobia month of action.
Rest of the story from Spurs OS.
The group will become part of the newly-formed GFSN Fangroup Coalition (GFSN FC), backed by Kick It Out and Stonewall, to act as an umbrella organisation for LGB&T fans throughout the country.

Our home match against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on Thursday 27th February at White Hart Lane will see the official launch of the group, which aims to engage Tottenham Hotspur's LGB&T fan base and hold regular consultation with the Club.

Leviathen Hendricks, Coordinator of GFSN FC, said: “We are delighted to be launching a LGB&T Tottenham Hotspur fan group. All football fans want to feel a real sense of belonging to their team. Unfortunately, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are still very real barriers.

“We believe that LGB&T fan groups will go a long way toward creating a tolerant and safe environment while providing an equality of social experience for all fans to freely enjoy the excitement of being a proud supporter of their Club.”

Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “The Club prides itself on being fully inclusive, regardless of race, gender or sexuality, and welcomes the formation of its first LGB&T fan group.

“Through our award-winning Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, we are a leader in the field when it comes to promoting equality and acceptance of the various groups and cultures that exist within our diverse and vibrant local community.

“We see this very much as an extension of that fantastic work, as well as the 20 years of ongoing support we have shown to the Kick It Out campaign.”
