Who's he and why a thread for him ?
Marcel Lavinier was included in the Europa Squad at the end of the January Transfer Window, so its perfectly possible that the 'just 20 year old' (dob 16 December 2000) will be included in the next EL squad to play Wolfsberger in Thursday's game at Puskas Stadium in Hungary.
Lavinier plays equally well as both RB and LB, and has also played as CB and RM in the past - so he's versatile.
Lavinier has played in all 13 u23 games this season since he joined, after a trial, at the end of the summer transfer window, half the games as RB and half as LB.
He was in Chelsea's academy and was a mainstay in their u18 team who won everything domestically in 2017 - 18 (u18 league, FA Youth Cup and inaugural u18 League Cup - beating us in the final) before playing for their u23 side for 2 years and being released by Chelsea in the summer despite his record which included a number of appearances for England u15, u16's u17's and Portugal u18's. His release probably because Chelsea had brought through Reece James (now being included in England squads) who is a year older than Lavenier and they also couldn't find a place at Chelsea for Tariq Lamptney (same age as Lavenier, now at Brighton and much coveted by other clubs and some on TFC), so being 3rd against that competition was a toughie for Lavinier.
Its very rare that Spurs sign players aged 19 for the u23 squad - and this year they signed Lavinier and two others, which might have been snapping up a few players who might be interesting first team punts, as cover to allow existing Spurs u23's to go out on loan (as defenders Eyoma, Okedina and Walcott have done) or other reasons that we do not understand.
With lockdown, and not many games streamed at u21 level, few Spurs fans will know that much in detail about Lavinier, other than he's quite fast, which is useful as a full back, definitely has talent and is about 6 foot but of slighter build than Tanganga.
With Spurs EL squad having Alderweireld, Dier and Sanchez, (but no space for Rodon) I imagine that Tangaga is viewed at cover at CB as well as RB, and having Lavinier in the squad is cover for both RB and LB. There were others Mourhino could have chosen to be in EL squad, so Lavinier is clearly seen as the best available option to provide cover for the squad in EL, and maybe even longer term ?
I hope the above is useful in the event he does appear in the EL squad this season, or even next pre-season,
