Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Tel's an ok player but we're going into the CL. We could pay a lot more and obtain a higher quality player. We won't. But we could. Spending 30m on someone who looks like a 12m player at best is typical Spurs business under Levy.

If we're looking to get anywhere in this competition then we should really be going in guns blazing.
Yeah, Levy is curiously willing to spunk tens of millions on pieces of crap (I don't count Tel as one of those, but he isn't worth this kind of cash) isn't he? Really odd. I get that the wages are more of a concern, but say Tel is on £5m pa for 4 years ... that's £50m odd he's going to spunk on Tel? WTF?

The kid is 20. Yes he should have been more clinical, but he has proven himself for Bayern at an early age and if a deal can be struck for 30-35m I dont really see an issue.

Just like most of the others he needs a proper coach.
If that was the case they wouldn't be hawking him out.

And certainly wouldn't be willing to drop the asking price just to offload him.

He's done nothing at all to justify that spending money on him, instead of using it elsewhere, is the wise thing to do.

This is all just about feelz.

As usual.

but he has proven himself for Bayern at an early age
proved himself so much that they cant wait to offload him.....makes sense. then cut their original price in half just to make sure he fucks off.

fair play to bayern, they identified he wasnt going to be good enough and tried to lumber some other mugs with him, we should of done the same with winks and skipp before giving everyone long enough to realise they aint premier league footballers.

Their other wingers bar Olise are expensive and hot garbage.

Tel will come good, either here or at Bayern. I dont see him failing.

they still wouldnt let him go if they thought he was going to be good, especially at 30m when initially tried to take the piss and ask for 60m.

i dont know how you can put faith in him being a success, hes shown nothing. what makes you think hell be a success? what footballing qualities have you seen from him? ive seen none.

Dear me. That really is bad news. Nothing like Tel and Ange staying to wash away the good EL vibes!
If this is correct, the price is much lower than the originally quoted option. Some of his talent has shown during this spring. Hopefully it's a Lange, not an Ange signing. And I hope that the next manager (Frank, Carrick, McKenna?) can get the best out of him. I'm ok with it if it's at this price level.

I've not seen much at all. Some nifty work as a sort of footballing Henry Kissinger trying to pacify the fans after another defeat

I actually much prefer Odobert from what I've seen. I think Odobert could be a very good player with the right coaching over the next two years.

agree. odobert looks far cleaner on the ball and is comfortable playing with both feet, far more promise. really do not see anything with tel, and when youre as clumpy as he is on the ball you need to be a freak physically and hes not that either.

Look I actually believe he is a decent forward and will become better. He did a good job at Bayern during Kane's absence last season. He came in here without a pre-season and a coach without any kind of setup, floating around on the left and as a striker in most of the games. Under Ange as a forward you have to work like a pig to get any kind of service or painfully need to create it yourself. In the minutes he played, he got into decent positions but was bad at finishing his chances.

They let him go because Kompany preferred other players. And as for a fee, if I had the opportunity to sign him for 30m at Tottenham, I would go for it. Exorbitant release clauses are normal part of football and usually negotiated down.

Anyway: We need a strong squad next season. As usual it is panning out as always with Levy. This should be a no-brainer due to the amount which is available through the EL win and CL qualification.

Players like Tel are the best we can hope for with our current transfer strategy.

I know no one like it, but if you continue to expect better, you'll continue to be disappointed.

Note that Delap is going for £30m. I wouldn't mind Tel at £15m as a punt. At £35m it's way over the odds.

That is a release clause tbf, not his ceiling value. Ipswich are probably doubling their money on him too, so it would have seemed high at the time.

No doubt chelsea will buy him just to sell him for £40m next summer to kick the FFP sheet along a bit more.

Only just made me realise how invisible Evan Ferguson has been at west ham. It's a graveyard for strikers there

Many scathing comments on a young player coming in to the strongest league in world expecting him to be an instant success in a team that has had it's worst league season since 1977.
He must have shown some talent for the scouts of one of Europe's top clubs Bayern to recommend the club to buy him and he wasn't that cheap for someone so young.
Maybe he hasn't progressed as much as hoped , I'm happy to leave it to Lange , Paratici (if coming) plus Ange or new manager who have far more knowledge than anyone here to make the decision, keep & sign or get rid.

On 26 July 2022, Tel signed for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich on a four-year contract. The transfer fee paid to Rennes was of €28.5 million, bonuses included. On 6 March 2024, he extended his contract at the club until 2029
We were also interested in him when he was at Rennes too
there is no doubt in my mind Matys Tel will reach the very top of the professional game
Whether that is with us or at Bayern or even another club
He is definitely worth investing in
