The OTT vitriol against Tel is really weird, I guess he represents a typical Levy deal where it was an opportunistic signing, young and on a cheap salary and potentially is our left wing option hence why people haven't taken to him but it's still really weird how extreme people talk about him, he's clearly raw but he's not that bad.

It's just that he's not very good at football, which is a shame given his occupation.

The issue was that after a diabolical loan display, and even his most vocal supporters can't disagree, they spent ~£40m on this transfer.

That's not cheap. That's first team money for a player that is light-years away from performing at this level.

No one has an issue with him, it's as you say, an issue with the club, for truly one of the most bizarre transfers we've seen.

It’s mad how kids aren’t even given a season now by fans, especially one that’s clearly trying.
Back in the 80s and 90s I’d patiently wait until players got to 27-28 to finally come good !

Football is completely different now. It’s the clubs own fault, we have asked kids to do the job of seniors, some like Bergvall have been able mostly and others not so much. Tel and Odobert will be much better when they are playing in the cups and covering injuries, suspensions and competing for their place.

Tel clearly needs to grow, he shouldn’t be put in a position where if he fails then we fail. Hopefully if we get Simons and Lookman then the likes of Tel can come into games without a desperate need for them to be already top draw.

We don't have a season to give a kid/s time to.

Look at our squad.

That 40m should have been put towards eze/savonho/akliouche etc.

Just bung 30 on it and get a proper player in.

We nee dproper depth.

We're in the CL ffs.

I watched Levy apologist Butler say yesterday we had an obligation on him
It was an option and the club had a good look at hin and still signed him.
We must have money to burn

I really hope we are al proved wrong with Tel and he turns into a proper player, he is still young, living in a new country and playing in the best league in the world so we need to try and be patient with him, but I just don't see it myself.
The good news is, Frank is good at moulding attackers however he is way down the pecking order now so its a massive task for him.

Tel is the ultimate Levy-incompetence signing:

- should be some sell-on value given age, with a (small) chance of upside
- curries favour with Bayern
- low wages vs a proven PL player who improves our team

£38m Keep him for four years, paying him £17m in wages in total. £55m we're shelling out in total for this guy, minus any re-sale value at end of year 4, which tbf has a very wide potential range.

But the opportunity cost ... dear me ... that £55m could have materially changed two of the MGW, Savinho and Eze deals, and potentially got two of them over the line. It's a lot of lucre to add into the mix. Now admittedly age would impact MGW and Eze values over four years, but nonethleless. Honestly think if we'd signed two of those three we'd be in the mix for top 3 this season, and actually have a very materially better chance of CL football next season and the season after that.

So maybe not the great bean-counter after all??? :D

It's pretty clear that no amount of money would have got MGW and Eze "over the line".

We supposedly bid the release clause for Gibbs-White, which would usually mean the player moving to us would be a formality. Instead, for whatever reason he chose to stay at Forest. And Eze always had his heart set on Woolwich.

I realise the way both transfers played out feels a little humiliating, but I just don't see how adding another 10 or 20 million to either bid would have got us the respective player.

The crucial factor with Eze wasn't money, it was time.

MGW who the fuck knows, that saga remains as clear as mud.

I totally disagree with the first point. On MGW, we absolutely could have gone back with a much bigger offer than the release clause, and a more generous wage offer. Re Eze, perhaps more tricky, but again, would Palace turn down Spurs offering £10m more?

and it's the time dicking around over money. No doubt in my mind that going in bang, bang bang with the truckloads of cash would have given us a far better chance of landing our men. Very hard for selling clubs to turn down someone who is paying more than anyone else is willing to for something they have to sell. Yes the player has agency, which makes Eze a bit trickier IMO, but all the same.

I get where you're coming from...but we're in the CL - we're not going to win the fucking thing without a massive dose of good fortune, so its not like we should go bankrupt buying players. Madrid, PSG, and City, as always, are the favorites. Bayern has an outside shot, as usually, because they have an expensive squad that really doesn't have any other competition to focus on.

Our priority is:
  1. Win the PL (lolz)
  2. Qualify for next season's CL.
  3. Advancing to the CL KO stage to get the revenue.
  4. Advance to the CL QF or beyond if we get a good draw.
  5. Win the FA Cup.
  6. Finish above woolwich.
  7. Finish above chelsea.
  8. Win the LC.
