Player Mathys Tel

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

People gotta take it easy on this guy.

He needs to improve to be successful here but I’m sure he wants that and is trying. It’s not his fault the club spent so much money on an unproven player.

Some of you seem to hate the guy and want him to fail.
It's frustration that we spunked a ton of cash on a player who's pretty bad at football. Couple that with the fact we lost a very good player in Son. And as bad as Son was last year, is 50* better than Tel.

I certainly don't believe he was worth what looks like a 40 m punt but he is young and maybe Frank can manage him to get his confidence up and see what he can do ,definitely should not be abused he certainly won't improve if he is the target after every setback.

Tel still has some highly sort-after attributes. 2 good feet and gets his shots off quickly and with power. Potential to score lots of goals if used well.

He has limitations too eg receiving back to goal, dribbling ability, that have meant he's not been a good fit to play as loan 9 or touchline winter under Ange.

I'm hopeful that Frank can find the way to maximise his abilities - maybe playing in a 2 up front alongside Richy or Solanke, as an option from the bench will get him going.

Tel's stats are pretty good when you look into them.

On the face if it, he's played 60 games for Bayern but in reality, he was only ever used as a sub. He averages just 27 minutes per game so when you take that into consideration, his 12 goals and 6 assists start to look quite good.

His actual game time equates to just 18 full 90 minutes so 12 and 6 in 18 games is very good.

I'm backing Tel to come good considering his age and the fact that he was in a squad behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.

Might not be this year, but he's going to break out soon.

Full steam ahead on the Tel train!

Fcuk me fans/posters.

Before we signed the bloke on loan, he was this super talent, that when we looked like missing out on, it was all Levy this and Levy that.

We got the bloke on loan, and he did not pull up any trees. That was January. 7 months ago.

Then we bought him, after some deliberation one would think. Nothing to justify that as yet.

But Bale, best player we have had in my experience was hardly brilliant at first, although his ability was clear. Very different I know.

Let’s hope Tel finds a way to turn his potential into something more tangible. Then it's super business. If not, then we took a chance. They can't all be win, but the odds seemed good here.

Embarrassing the way some people go on about playerd that try. Give me this type everyday over the unmentionables.

We had never heard of him but presumed as he was at Bayern he must be good then he didn't want to join lil ol' Tottenham but a fat Aussie turned his head. We then had months to look at him well not so much on the pitch....and we saw nothing so presumed he would be returned but no we really wanted this boy and being such a rich club we can afford to spunk £40m on punts (how much were Kudus and Simons FFS).
It now appears Odd Bert is ahead of him in the pecking order QED

How many of the Tel believers think we still need to sign another left winger?

You either think we are fine in that position for the season or we should be in the market still.

Don't come on here saying he's good enough then pop in the transfer thread and chirp on about bringing one in.

The people acting like he's good enough are just as bad as the one's who say he's shit.

No one fucking knows. He played 13 games for us last season as part of a shit Spurs side deploying shit tactics. He, like everyone else in our team looked bad.

He had a stinker coming on at PSG but it was one game. The penalty I don't really give a shit about, it's a pen. It happens.

I feel like it was a bit questionable making the transfer permanent for £30m based solely on his performances for us. Especially considering the fact that Frank hadn't even been appointed. We have no idea if he's the type of player he wants/sees value in.

Based on what we've seen of him I don't think he's good enough right now but maybe that'll change as the season progresses. One or two good performances and people will start raving about him again, such is the way of football. He clearly has something about him otherwise he wouldn't be here.

Seems he's like this season's scapegoat

Thing is, they are angry with Levy for signing a young player instead of a more established LW but when you realize that Frank sees Johnson as the frontline LW, it’s not illogical to have massively talented younger players rotating and chomping at the bit to play.

But that only works if you sign a creative player like Simons who unlocks Johnson to just run in behind and score. We have done that and I think people are still expecting a marquee signing on the left so don’t understand where Tel fits in.

Thats also ignoring the fact that Richy and Solanke won’t be fit at the same time the whole season so Tel will get minutes at CF too.

Wasn't it Odobert that came on for Johnson on the left last match?

Also noticed Solomon on the bench today, maybe Frank likes what he sees, so there might be a few but nothing fantastic options of the left. Tel probably is on the bench as CF cover today. No Solanke.
