Ex-Spurs Player Matt Doherty

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

"I didn't come close, I never had a conversation, nothing was ever said to me. From my point of view I was led to believe that I wasn’t going anywhere. I don’t know if that’s the case, that is what my point of view was. You have thoughts at times that it wasn’t working out, I just decided that I wanted to train hard and I wanted to play here.

"Why would I want to go anywhere apart from Tottenham? I thought if I keep training hard and I keep doing what the manager wants the opportunity would come and it would be up to me to grasp the opportunity and at the moment I seem to be doing that well."
Fair play to him. Thought we had bought a player who wasn't suited to our way of playing but he is currently proving us wrong.

We did.
Mind fuckingly, we signed a RWB for a coach who played a back 4. We then sacked that coach and appointed the RWB's former coach, who played him as a RWB at his old club, only for him to arrive and....play a back 4 again.
3rd time lucky...

I still think he's weak at defending and we'll sometimes struggle when playing teams who pose an attacking threat down our right.
But when we're the better team, he's going to have a lot of fun.

Came here to give him a wee shout out - really enjoying seeing his renaissance under Conte. Pleased for him (and for us!)

Should be a reminder to people that just because a player is struggling it doesn't mean he is "shit". Confidence, the general performance of the team, and the role a player is asked to fill plays a huge part in how he performs.

I admit I thought he was one of the worst players we had ever bought, but kudos to him for making me eat my words. I love it when a player turns it around so completely. I hope he continues to perform at this level, as that will sort out one of our problem areas.

Well documented that Jose planned to use him in a lop sided formation with Ben Davies playing as an inverted full back until we signed Reguilon, then the plans changed.

Just have to give Doc a shout out for Sunday, some of his highlights - his first time around the corner ball to Son who then win the corner for equaliser (crowd lifted off feet when doc played that ball), superb cross field ball to right wing in to space again crowd lifted & applauded, scored lead goal, was then ready to pull trigger if Son missed his goal, set up Emerson goal🤯 His movement going fwd is insane, I don’t think players realise yet how great positions he’s getting into; every pass he made found a man. Savage, like a new signing, serious composure on the ball. Conte clearly values him now, moved him over to lwb when he took reg off last week, switched him rwb when Emerson taken off Sunday. Long may this cont. There, got it out if my system. Coys

He’s not a natural defender.
He started out as a right midfielder and was converted to a RWB.
Playing him in a four was incredibly dumb. That his former coach should do it amplifies the mistake. He’s now playing like Wolves’ Matt Doherty we thought we signed. With his surge in confidence, he’s probably our best option on either wing ( which is, in Itself, a little sad).

I think he has always had the movement, in Jose season their where many time he made attacking runs but wasn't found

I just thought he was wank

Funny him Dier & Davies who were on most peoples get rid sheet are now first choice
