Manager Mauricio Pochettino

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What have you seen so far that shows Poch deserves to stay on?

I don't want to sack him but that's mainly because of the embarrassment factor of whoring our club around Europe again, looking for the first Mondeo window to be lowered in our direction. Nothing to do with Poch though.

So, what have you witnessed that makes you so swearily sure that he's the right man?

It's not that I am ABSOLUTELY convinced he IS the right man, however please tell me, how has the whole 'changing the manager whenever we haven't had instant success' routine worked out for us? Has it worked out well? If so, then please kindly do show me sir where the evidence for that is!

No, we cannot just keep changing the manager as soon as things don't go our way. At some point, a manager has to be given a reasonable amount of time, and full backing from the board in the transfer market. I don't personally believe that one season constitutes 'reasonable' time at all. No, Poch needs to be given full support this summer to bring in the players he wants, and the entirety of next season, and then I think we are in a better position to judge.

Now, Sammy Spurs decided to use the term 'deluded' to describe a set of spurs fans who want to give poch full backing and believe everything will be ok with new players, so I will use the same term to describe those who think that getting rid of him (chopping and changing our manager policy yet again) will give us success.

That's my two cents. I thoroughly disagree with any idiot who thinks Poch needs to go now, and I won't be changing my mind

I cannot believe you're already wanting Pochettino to be sacked. At the end of the last season, we wanted some stability, better football and stop getting hammered by the top four teams. We all agreed that we wouldn't be able to compete for top four and 5th or 6th would be a realistic finish.
After all, we played a League Cup final, we have a 20 goals striker and we played some good football at times. Of course, some players are going through bad form, yet we will probably not know what's been discussed between Levy and Pochettino. Maybe both of them want us out of Europa League next season. That could explain why we keep getting beaten.
You were going really well...until the last sentence...

There'd be no shortage of managers wanting to come to us. However, will decent players want to come in the summer?
I asked which manager worth their salt would come to us mate. Nobody of any recent repute or standing. Nobody who would "take us to the next level". So we would end up with another Poch type "prospect" who may do marginally better, or marginally worse than a top 6 finish with possibly a decent cup run thrown in. Do we throw out the baby with the bath water again & have another transitional period if that happens? Recently we've all been highly underwhelmed after a pretty promising first half to the season but I think the club needs some stability & continuity rather than this managerial merry go round. Let's face it, things haven't been too wonderful since 'Arry got the chop. We are on our 3rd manager since that decision was taken.

I think the criticism based on performances, decisions, line-ups, formations, subs, all that is entirely fair.

Unfortunately there's very little factual stuff like that around. Most of it is just gobshit, going to only one root-cause within very few posts: "We should never have sacked Timmeh".

It's like a perverted form of Godwins Law.

Poch has been so very underwhelming, but perhaps Saints were just a better club than everyone thought, just as less things there were down to Poch compared to what everyone thought too.

Still, he has done enough to earn at least another season.

Oh, and sacking someone? Start with half the squad and tell the board of owners to hire a an executive chairman who actually has a clue about football.

Your post is fair, but its based on absolutely fuck all other than desperate hope.

People saying they are not convinced yet is based on facts.

Incorrect - my post is based on the FACT that chopping and changing our manager so quickly in the past has NEVER worked for us. Not hope. Fact.

And in my post, I myself said I wasn't entirely certain that Poch would indeed be the right man for us, but that he needs backing and time before he can be properly judged.

Also, and this is the last I'm going to say here because there are far too many disgusting melts in here for me to bother engaging with, it's not like the season has been a complete disaster...battling top 6, and reached a cup final. Hardly the epitome of an awful season!

Bye

But it's like saying "He can stay, but can someone please tell me why".

Well Im asking myself for answers too.

My main point for wanting to keep him is that I cant be bothered with another manager. Thats not really a glowing reflection of Pochs first season.

He has unravelled all the positives of the first half of the season IMO. I had hope in his approach.

Now he has shown that he is willing to abandon large chunks of players out of the blue at any given moment. Now its Townsend and Paulinho (while I dont rate them, its still baffling that Poch did, then suddenly they are completely dropped)..

He could get all the players he wants, I still wont have faith that he will get the best out of them, and if he doesnt, then they will be abandoned at will.

Its not a good approach full stop, and unless he is signing his best friends to play for us, the pattern will continue, and the team still suffer because of it.

The fact that you want to know reasons why is he the right man sort of tells me that you mustn't have any yourself...
Are you being deliberately obtuse or are you ignoring the bit where I said "I have no idea"? To confirm I DONT KNOW IF HE IS THE RIGHT MAN OR NOT. I'm a floating voter. I await a convincing argument. Do you have one, or will you just tell me something else about myself that I already know?

Ive never said we should change mamager.
Im talking about thinking it will all be ok with new players.

But you are arguing against people saying pretty much the same.

I disagree he cant be judged now. He has made mistakes that have nothing to do with "not having his players"....why cant we judge that?

All very well, but the thread is called progress...last season was a farce, yet the best we can possibly do as it stands is finish 5pts worse off. That means winning the last two games.
We are likely to finish in the same position, with less points, and this manager is supposed to be better than the last ones, who were slated (by different parties) for isolating players, playing crap football and underachieving.

Poch has faired no better than Tim, with twice the time in charge.

Suddenly, the squad is not good enough. Under Sherwood, Soldado was supposedly mustard, but unfairly dropped...Sandro was supposedly the bollox..Mr Tottenham (Poch sold him)...Holtby was supposedly treated like shit and was what we needed (Poch loaned him out)...we have no width (Lennon outcasted)...we have no muscle (Capoue, Stambouli, Dembele outcasted)..we have no leadership (two captains outcasted)....we have the 4th worst goals against record (with a top 3 world class keeper)...we have a spine of Lloris, Jan, Bentaleb, Eriksen and Kane (and dont build the team around any of them)...

Who´s fucking responsible for that, and why will everything be rosy when Poch suddenly gets the 10 new players he supposedly needs before we can judge him...?

Nah, thats not delusional at all is it.....

I dont believe we are trying to lose for a second.

Its shocking that is being used in his defence. If I thought that, Id want him sacked...but to you, thats totally acceptable. Putting out sides to lose games.
Dear oh dear

One thing this thread does demonstrate is that none of us know for sure which way this will go if we do give Poch another season and the opportunity to shape the squad over the summer. A lot (myself included) can't even come to a conclusion when there is absolutely nothing riding on my opinion.

Whichever way he goes though, Levy is still going to be the clueless cunt in all this.

This place is laughable sometimes.

We all agree to give Poch time.
We all agree we will probably finish 5-7th and that this would be acceptable.

He gets us into a cup final
Youngest team in the league
Develops a top striker
Has a poor end to the season
Finishes 5-7th.

"Sack Poch". Jesus wept, don't let a few games at the end of the season taint your perspective of a 9 month season.

If Poch is given so much credit for Kane, then HR should have a statue for developing Bale into a world class player. Everyone knows he is forced to play Kane(hoping he can be our savior, which he kinda of did) because Soldado and Ade was rubbish.

He may have been forced to play him in the early stages, but Kane went on to force to play with his performances.
