Media Media Bias

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Roll on the summer when the media can pretend the last 2 seasons haven't happened and Liverpool and Utd are title contenders again.
:roseunsure:
Makes me so fucking angry.

I guess to slate them would be to draw attention to the fact their predictions (that they get paid for) were embarrassingly off mark yet again.

I genuinely can't come to terms or fathom why we seem to be so universally hated.

We play attractive football
We have a likeable respectful manager
We have roll model players (Kane etc)
We nurture English youth
We have a rich history

Yet we seem to be HATED by most other fans, pundits and media outlets.

I mean on what planet are we seemingly more disliked than a club like Chel$ea.

I think there's a lot of paranoia going on here. The media may have their favourite, Liverpool, but they don't hate us in general. They call us out when we fail. As they do with most clubs. As fans, we see bias against us when there is none. I've heard lots of praise for our team and our style of play, and its only reasonable to expect criticism following such an abject performance as we saw last night.

Probably a bit of both. I do think there's a lot more negativity directed at us than any other team that's equally failing but then again perhaps I notice it more so it seems that way to me.

The narrative of us "bottling" it has been set up for weeks tho this season when we were on a record breaking run of wins. Every games was given the undertone of "is this the week they bottle it".

I have no problem with us being criticised for poor performances. Last night was shit. But to paint it as a bottle job when we weren't even in the title race a few months back is utter bullshit.

We had a bad game. Nothing more or less.

I agree, and you could add to your list -

Not trying to buy success (relative to those that obviously have)
Making a solid challenge for the title without inflating players wages
Providing the back bone of the current England squad
Not withdrawing our England players for duty despite how tired or injured they may be (naive imho)

From this point of view of view I don't know why people hate on us, it's jealousy I guess. From the media's point of view I think it's partly the resistance to change and the anxiety that creates, very similar to the way Corbyn is misrepresented in the media. The top clubs have had it their own way for so many years. But also I just think they'll never take us seriously until we actually win something. For example, Liverpool haven't been anywhere near the title for years but they still put up a decent challenge in Europe. Our European/cup endeavours of late have been patchy at best, and pretty feeble at worst.

I'd partly disagree with this - I think the general bias that's been discussed here is very real, but I don't think its premeditated - it's just lazy stereotyping / journalism from a section of the media that aren't particularly renowned for their neutrality or self awareness. It's the world of Richard Keys and Andy Gray moaning about lineswomen and joking about "hanging out the back of it" - we're not talking the BBC world service here.

Yeah I really don't understand it. Personally I don't really give a toss what pundits or the media have to say - it's very rare they say anything worth listening too. As for fans I think it's only really Woolwich, Chelsea, West Ham and at a push Leicester that hate us.

People pay too much attention to the shite that gets spouted on places like Twitter. I used to be a Twitter user, and thought that peoples opinions on there really mattered and were shared by others that didn't use it - turns out that's really not the case.

Basically, bollocks to the media (who have an agenda to push whenever it sells), bollocks to fans of the filth, and bollocks to the social media hellhole comprised fifa addicted virgins, many of whom have never set foot inside of the stadiums of the teams they "support".

I'm not so sure. Woolwich haven't won the title since 2004 and they get absolutely slaughtered for it. We haven't won it for nearly 6 decades, during which time many, many smaller clubs have, and, understandably, we get slaughtered for it. It's not that we lose the odd game that excites the ridicule in the press, it's the type of game we lose. Year after year. For example, we were ridiculed for losing 7 FA cup semi finals in a row. If that's not fertile ground for the press to label us bottlers, I don't know what is.

Growing up watching football in the 70s and 80s I couldn't wait for the papers the next morning to read the match reports.
It was a football mad household with dad and 5 boys battling to read the papers first.
It confused me at the time as it didn't matter if we dominated the game but lost to a last minute deflection, the winner always got the headlines. And nothing has changed, gallant losers just don't cut the mustard with the media.
If the roles were reversed and it was Chelsea in our position last night you can bet they would have sat back and played like the away team, soak up the pressure and play off the break. It wouldn't matter to them if they bored the pants off everyone watching as long as they sneaked a winner.
That's what would have happened and they would have been highly praised for it. We need to learn how to do the same as that's what champions have been doing for years.

I think other fans think ours are arrogant....tbf we do sing that pretty much every other team is "fucking shit"

Was it a bottle job?
Tottenham were on a sequence of nine consecutive Premier League wins going into this match. A remarkable run given that no other side in the competition has won their last three. Far from bottling it, Spurs should be applauded for giving everyone a title race.
Their rivals may mock but Tottenham are the ones who have been the most consistently excellent team in English football over the past two years. They are the team that have overachieved throughout that period. The wait for the title goes on but Chelsea have been top since November. Spurs were always an outside bet.

We were at one point 13 points behind the top of the table, we cut it down to 4 after a 9 match winning streak, yet the narrative that we have bottled the league will be rammed down our throats by the media, fucking ridiculous.

When we crushed Chelsea at the The Lane after the game it was a celebration of there winning run, where was ours? No paranoia at all, why are every part of the media waiting for us to lose 1 game out of 10 to then take the piss? I genuinely just don't understand it.

Good old Ben giving the cunts what for...

Absolutely love how Spurs have got behind this bloke. He is awkward and uncool and others have tried to rip into him for it, only for it to backfire and make them out to look like a playground bullies. Dispite his awkwardness he is no different to me, said the same things, knows the same stuff, sings the same songs. (I still dislike all the video stuff, not just his but all fans from all clubs).

Exactly. He's no Scott Kieran.

Pretty funny that he'd have offered more punditry prowess than Rachel Riley last night.

It really annoys the fuck out of me that the only way we could have avoided the bottler tag was to have won over 13 games in a row...
