Merson tips Spurs to finish 3rd

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Citeh defensively could be "interesting" this year. The two main fullbacks theyve signed are very much forward thinking and could get caught out positionally. Still dont have a quality commanding centreback if Kompany doesnt play as well, plus add a new keeper in the mix and they've got some gelling to do. Will definitely score a shitload though

I see a lot of people placing Spurs 3rd or 4th this year, which is an improvement, of sorts. If Pep doesn't win the title he should honestly be fired.

I think Chelsea slip down to 3rd or 4th this season - people always forget what coping with a European schedule is like, and Chelsea basically was able to 100% focus on the league last season. Their back 3 also isn't sneaking up on anybody this time around.

Heart:
1. Spurs
2-20. Who cares

Head:
1. City
2. Spurs
3. Chelsea
4. United
5. Woolwich
6. Everton
7. Liverpool

I am very surprised you have pool as low as 7th, they've been the only team in recent season's that have consistently made us chase shadows both at home and away. They've gone out and bought Salah to further strengthen their attack. A good pointer for us would be to loosen the dominance they have and gain parity.

In less vague terms, what does that actually mean?

Personally, I expect Liverpool to be much the same as last year.

Clearly he has a 'thing' for pacey attackers and a blindspot for their lack of quality at the other end, but the question I have is can Klopp actually coach/drill a defense?

And Spurs finished 10 points above them last year - two games does not a season make. Now they have Europe to contend with. Klopp's head might explode bitching about the scheduling. I also think they sell Coutinho, so I think 7th is more likely for them than top 4.

You clearly haven't been watching how matches have unfolded in recent season's when pool have been our opposition.

Or your comments are incredibly vague....

It means pretty much what we do to teams they do to us, keep the ball stretch the game and make us do the chasing. We need to address the 70/30 advantage they have to something closer to 50/50.

I'm very interested to see how United wind up getting on this season. What I saw of them in pre-season was actually very worrying. They look very good. I think they're in contention for winning the title. Hopefully they fail miserably though.

Of course they were good on a pre season tour of the states....thats the point of them now, to extract money from people who don't know any better.

Liverpool do most of their defending further up the pitch. When it actually gets to their defence then they're in trouble

Klopp's style of football is well and truly gegenpress. Both in offense and in defence. High pressure, high tempo football. If we figure out how to get out of that I imagine we'd have a much simpler time with them

I've been saying this too, if he fails to deliver the title he has to go. I wish those with the power to do so should start pushing this on to the media, really ramp up the pressure. The media don't want Pep to get the sack, he's box office for them, same with maureen.

Trouble is we haven't figured it out yet, we tend to have brain farts when we try and play the ball out from the back. It takes lots of movement off the ball and a bit of imagination / creative thinking.

This is true. Our goalie being far from the best with his feet is probably a factor in us playing the ball out from the back. Hugo is a fantastic goalie but he's not exactly great with his feet.

I damn near have a heart attack whenever we pass it back to him and the opposition has a striker in deep to put pressure on him
