Will he be fit for Thursday?

He's had a setback and will now be out until the new year.

Starting both him and Romero against United might be the dumbest thing Ange has done in his time here. I think taking a risk on one of them would have been acceptable but to start both was madness, as was leaving VDV for as long as he did.

There's a real pattern emerging of players breaking down very quickly after returning from injury. Players like Richarlison, VDV, Romero, Odobert and Son all got re-injured with just a handful of minutes played. Ange needs to take a serious look at whether his methods are destroying their legs.

I must admit I'm getting a bit concerned for VdV's future. He tweaks his hamstring, then it's several weeks out, a (possibly rushed) comeback, then he breaks down again, but Ange says it's nothing major, then it's a reoccurrence of the old injury, then hopefully he'll be back in February. Will it be "he needs surgery" next?

I really hope I'm wrong, but I fear we could have another Sessengon or Richy on our hands.

I'd be shocked if he's not back in January. Early January based on the tone of Ange's quotes.

If he is rushed back he likely will develop chronic hamstring problems.

It is up to the manager to play him back into form slowly. But managers tend to prioritize results so players are allowed to break down.

They need to be very careful with this. He's not a pace merchant, but what makes him already a very good player, with sky being the limit, is that unique combination of pace and physicality/strength he has. If a chronic hamstring issue or anything else takes that away, he will simply turn into an average player.

It'd be a shame because I genuinely see a world class player in the making. If he needs to be micromanaged on occassions then so be it. Don't waste this guy's potential for miniscule short-term gains.
