Player Mohammed Kudus

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Had to re watch that trap of the ball on tv to make sure my 👀 didn't deceive me at the game. There was an audible gasp of amazement from the Westies when he did it and well worth the price of the entrance fee.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kudus doesn't end up playing as the #10 for significant amounts of time. It looks like finding a #10 in this transfer window could be difficult and if Spurs end up settling for a less experienced player then using Kudus there and focusing on bringing in a winger could be a temporary solution. I don't think he would be far from what Eze would have been.

Wasn't one of the reasons put forward as to why his form for West Ham wobbled last season that he was being played out of position?

Nah. Play your best players where they are best.

It may well be it means we don't play a 4-2-3-1. Thankfully we finally have a manager who likes to play his best team and adapt to both his own players and the opposition.

Kudus form in 24/25 was a long way short of 23/24 - but reasons not given in this article from his homeland

This suggests he was tried in 4 different roles in 24/24 incl. CF being reason for loss of form

Kudus racking up 1,523 minutes of gametime on his favoured right flank in his first season (23/24) - cutting onto his favoured left foot to shoot at goal or supply Jarrod Bowen in central areas - that number dropped to 646 minutes last term (24/25), as Kudus plugged gaps across the frontline.

Across all competitions Kudus scored 14 goals and got 9 assists in 23/24, (including 8 goals and 6 assists in 33 appearances in the Premier League in 2023-24) but only 5 goals and 3 assists in 24/25. A big drop off, but equally Wham's form as a team also dropped off a lot

Up to Frank to set the team up, but Kudus seems to prefer RW position, and it may not be worth moving him if he's less effective as LW or 10 etc..

But Johnson (Spurs highest scorer last season) is also better as RM so Frank needs to manage him too - which might mean Johnson often subs Kudus or is simply rotation as no player will play anything like 60 games a season, more like 35 games.

Lets see where we are at end of window as to the various combinations of attackers spurs could deploy - Frank may well employ a number of these combinations over the course of he season

If Frank gets shafted by Levy and the gang in the transfer market, which he probably will, Kudus will almost certainly end up getting shifted around and overused.

Happens to pretty much all our players in the ENIC era.

If our forwards are fit most of the time (particularly Richarlison and Odobert) Spurs have a slightly larger and more experienced squad of forwards than we had available last season - and neither Odobert or Richarlison had a worse run of injuries pre Spurs, so both should be available more than last season

Add even one new forward player and we should be better off. But lets see where we are at end of Window.

Players are used to changing position - going back in time Martin Peters played in every position on the pitch except GK in his career (1960's and 70's) as an extreme example - and younger players in particular are tried in many positions (eg Donley who used to be a no 9 dropped back to be a no 10 but used as a LB in preseason, Devine regularly plays as a no 10 or deep lying playmaker yet in E u19's where E had too many decent CM's but a shortage of wingers, Devine was regularly played as RW or LW and despite being played out of position was usually vited as one of best players on pitch.

Frank is known to change tactics - starting with a back 5 v PSG and back 4 v Burnley so I'm expecting most of players will change their style of play significantly from match to match.

I think Kudus going from RW to SS or 10 is fine. If we start shunting him to LW and overplaying him, it could be an issue

I need to see it against a team that’s not PSG/City or Burnley level before deciding

Frank was well know for changing formations/tactics at Brentford, and to judge from his PSG and Burnley matches he's going to try a lot of formations and players positions, almost certainly in training before matches, so we might well see quite a few.

I'm expecting a few players - perhaps Tel as an example may get a lot of individual training in lots of aspects pf his game (eg shooting ) to improve him. Equally Dane Scarlett, usually played as a no 9, played a lot as LW at Portmouth in 22/23 (playing 2k+ minutes) so if we are still short staffed at LW when window closes I'd like to see whether coaching can improve some players performances at LW.

Be good to see whether the coaching team can make real changes to players.
