Hopefully this gets dealt with early next week.

It's probably just a case of a bruised ego and poor emotional control. Which fits Marinakis' profile perfectly.

Legally, you can't prevent a player who wants to move from leaving if their release clause has been met. If they don't have concrete evidence we tapped him up there's fuck all that can be done other than needlessly dragging this on, an outcome that is in no one's interests as Forest will need a replacement rapidly. Hopefully Marinakis has had a Snickers or two over the weekend, grown up a bit and swallows his pride Monday morning.

Although, I doubt it.

Probably most relevant bit to us is this
"Forest are not naive about the way these things work, but they are asking questions over how supposedly confidential details of Gibbs-White’s contract were seemingly known by Spurs, who offered the exact amount required to trigger his release. Tottenham declined to comment on the matter when approached by The Athletic.

The result of Forest’s complaints to the Premier League over what they believe to be an illegal approach and their threats of potential legal action may only ultimately delay things, rather than halt them. But they do not want to be seen to be easily allowing their most influential player to depart, at a time when they have just reluctantly sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United for £52million."

Uh delaying things because they don't want to be seen as pushovers.

TBH it's kinda understandable, it's all about PR with these clubs. When Levy complained to the Premier League about Utd and Liverpool tapping up Berbatov and Keane it wasn't to stop them from doing it, it was to show face.

I guess for Forest losing two of your best players in the space of a week shows that they're a small club, if we came along with a bid for Gibbs-White at the end of July I doubt that there would be this drama over him.

Always a chance someone else comes in

I think that is might be the idea behind all this fake outrage from the Forest owner.....he wants another club to create a bidding war, but why would any other club offer any more than the release clause? :sonmask:.....surely any interested clubs would offer the release clause amount and then leave it to the player to decide where he wants to go

I think it’s only delayed things.

The player’s mindset is to move to us with how far along the process was when the owner had a tantrum, and reincorporating him back into Forest’s squad is bound to be problematic.

We’d ideally want to stagger the instalments, but if the rumoured capital injection is true, £60m upfront needn’t be an impossibility.

I'd have thought that a release clause meant that even if a club came in and offered £100m, Forest wouldn't be able to prevent MGW from joining Spurs unless he wanted to.

Agreed. ESPN were claiming that he'd already been to the ground and completed his medical when Forest pulled the plug.

I'm pretty sure his heart is now set on the move.

There is a video circulating of GW playing against Frank's Brentford and absolutely running the game as part of a double pivot. I think Frank might want to partner him with Bentancur or Bergvall in CM in home games. Frank has spoken of how sometimes he likes to play a more attacking player in the pivot to make the team more offensive. Eze cannot do that, he is more of a WF / CAM.
