Sissoko is an incredible athelete and has a very good brain. You can’t survive under a coach like Poch and have a poor footy IQ, see Andros Townsend.

His problem his is that his feet can’t match his brain to do the end product, but he’s a phenomenal counter attacking/transition player.

Again, laughable. Plenty of not very intelligent players have continually played under Poch. You think Moura’s intelligent? Aurier? Walker? Rose? And Townsend was picked to play a cup final ahead of Lamela and Dembele by Poch and ended up being sold only after having a bust up with a member of Poch’s staff.

As stripiestpilot said, he’s reactive, and even his reactions are slow due to poor poor intelligence.

His feet match his brain perfectly. Not very intelligent and poor technique.

He creates virtually nothing on the counter, which is why not only is his assist rate poor, but even his pre-assist metrics like XG -build-up are poor.

You’re just saying stuff.

Funny rating as I snorted at “you’re just saying stuff”.

Sissoko has to be the player that has split opinion most in my almost forty years of supporting us. Thing is, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle of both camps.

He’s a weak link in one of the best squads we’ve ever had, but he still offers qualities. His pure annoyance when hassling the oppo is nice to see, even though he doesn’t tackle that much. His ability to move us fifty yards up the pitch to give defenders a breather is nice, but that’s all it does as his runs rarely lead to a chance.

As for the “Poch plays him so he’s good” argument, who else was Poch going to play? Playing Sissoko was probably slightly preferable to getting Freud out of retirement. We had nobody else to play central mid last season so he had to play a lot.

He’s a good player to have in the squad but not in the first team of a side with title ambitions.

Technical ability and Football intelligence are not the same thing, they're independent of one another

Sissoko is in the Wanyama square (and ought to have a smiley by now). He reads the game and anticipates play well. He finds himself in the right places to make an impact.

Come on man, this is lazy shit that's been trotted out and debunked so many times. When you say "he is very good at tackling" you are just plain wrong on all counts. he doesn't tackle much (14th in our squad - 1.2 per game - same as Eriksen) and he is also clumsy when he does, just watch the mess he made of tackles against ManU last week. he doesn't press much or very effectively either (go check out the press metrics I posted yesterday in the Transfer thread). He carries the ball forward maybe once a game, and invariably just gives it away, again you only have to watch last weeks game to see this happen. His effective deep progression stats are piss poor.

Fuck knows what being good at "shielding the ball" means at this level, do you mean he's good at being big? because he's not good under pressure.

You need to go away and do some homework, and either back up your hackneyed cliches or stop spouting nonsense.

Oh dear

I wonder if there any Sissoko dolls where Blakey has bought one and sticks pins in it of a nighttime

It’s getting that silly

I thought he did ok tonight

Nothing special but did a shift

What’s the problem?

Moura certainly has a passable footy IQ, he takes up several different positions and uses the ball well enough. Walker and Rose had good enough brains to be full backs for Poch.

Aurier has never been fully trusted by Poch so thanks for proving my point.

If Sissoko was so stupid then multiple managers wouldn’t put faith in him to carry out specific tasks. He is very much a coaches player, his teammates always love him, his individual talent isn’t the best so he makes up for it in other areas. If Sissoko based on the last season is our 3rd choice CM, then we are strong in that area.

This is fucking hilarious:

He's thoughtful enough to offer Toby some advice, mind you. There's that outstretched arm again.

Tobes is flapping his arms now. I'm not sure what his problem is.

That's fucking bang out of order RESPECT THE COCK RESPECT THE COCK , Sissoko is a brave warrior who single handedly saved this club...

Look, it's not just Sissoko who was doing this type of thing at the weekend. It has become a hallmark of the way we play.

Lets be clear, this is something that is a particular issue with Sissoko (Dier before him wasn't great for this, but Sissoko has taken it to a new level) a player who hides from the ball because he doesn't want it under pressure, it crippled us last season.

Winks for example received the ball 76 times Saturday, Sissoko 52, and Winks was on the pitch 30 minutes less - in a game we had 70% possession in. Even Ndombele, a 23yo making his PL debut received it 5 times more than Sissoko.

The biggest issue for me, is Pochettino constantly selecting players to play in midfield, for a philosophy that wants to play from the back and control the football via midfield.

Genuinely funny 😂

Well keep him back there hassling the other team all day, but keep him away from imitating Chris Waddle🙄
