Alisson: most expensive transfer fee ever for a GK (at the time).
VVD: most expensive transfer fee ever for a defender (at the time).
Salah: most expensive transfer fee ever in Liverpool history (at the time).

Robertson (a "steal" @ £10 Million transfer fee) would be the only comparable player to PEH in this scenario.
Seems you still dont get that the problem is with the measure of value you posted.

The value of a player is not measured simply by the points accumulation of his team (as that depends on so many other factors) but his quality and price relative to players in similar roles.

So if you want to gauge his value, find similar or better DMs and see at what price they are or would be available for.

Of course we are better than Southampton.

I think he meant Southampton losing PEH has improved them which is hard to argue against, as they have 11 more points and an improved goal difference of +21.

But then we have also improved with PEH in the team. So win win for both. I dont think he is good enough to play for City or Liverpool but hed get a game for any of the remaining teams.
He'd be Liverpools top scorer at this rate

and neither of those are as good as PEH.

Romeu is worse than Sissoko, and couldnt make the rotation under Mourinho at Chelsea. He was sent out on loan even before the season started, so much so that he bought Matic for an outrageous sum in January.

Diallo is still young so too early to judge, but given he is currently behind Romeu shows the level he is at.

You seem to understimate the quality of PEH. While he was a teenager, Pep described him as a potential Sergio Busquets of Bayern (see Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg brings Pep Guardiola schooling to Southampton)

You should not undervalue a player that is so highly rated by two great but antithetical managers in Mourinho and Pep. There are not many players that can impress one of them, talk less of both.

Comparable statistics.
S'oton are significantly better this season w/o PEH, Spurs marginally improved w/ PEH.
I was underwhelmed by the signing of Höjbjerg, and will admit that he's put in some fine performances for us thus far, but I can't think of a player (unwarranted) collectively fellated as PEH.

You win, PEH and Romeu are of similar quality, and I am going to be the next pope!

Still wonder why we didnt just buy Romeu. Mourinho and the scouting team must have been blind.

Guardiola once described PEH as the next Busquets.

And rated him so much, he barely played at Bayern and instead was shifted out on loan and then barely tried to bring him to City.

Makes you think.

Our gain though, I suppose.

Then again, this is the Sissoko thread. So less talk of good footballers in this thread please.

There was no way he was going to get regular minutes with Bayern's first team and he should have been sent out on loan. Took Pep two seasons to see reason.

But everyone knows that its Mourinho that doesnt develop youngsters

You win.................................................................!

Mostly timing. Højbjerg's contract was ending in July 2021. Romeu's in 2023. Højbjerg's salary at S'oton was slightly less than Romeu's.

Also, because Højbjerg pushed for a move. "In June 2020, Hojbjerg was stripped of the captaincy after publicly speaking about his desire to leave the club, with teammate James Ward-Prowse replacing him as captain."

Romeu also had a year left on his contract and only extended it to 2023 last November (see Romeu extends contract).

The fact the Hojbjerg pushed for a move did not stop us from trying to sign Romeu.

Interestingly, Romeu wasnt offered an extension earlier in the year when Hojbjerg was, despite both having similar time left on their existing contracts.

👍Nice catch.

Are you speculating, or ...?

Makes sense. Comparable players (similar position, stats, salary, foreign roster spot), but Højbjerg is 4 younger.
Then S'oton bought Diallo (a defensive midfielder who's 4 years younger than Højbjerg) for £13 Million.

He really is not the answer to our improving our attacking play. Winks might be negative but at least he has football skills. Lo Celso or Dele when fit must be in with Holjberg and Ndombele.
