The super league is cancer. And politics is a two edged sword. Ban them for a year and see how their negotiating point weakens

But the televisions would bring the football leagues to court for loss of income as the fans would decrease: the television subscriptions would collapse. Follow the money

No they won’t. There’s nothing in the TV deal that requires the PL to have man utd to get the money for rights. It’s not something the PL can commit to and hence contract around, and in legal terms it’s a risk the buyer of rights take upon himself (like someone buying the right to sell cars in a certain country and some event happens so their prices decreases, it’s a mistake he bears the costs for)

In my opinion nothing will happen. The result will however be that the Super League will not be born.

Given the levels of debt carried by most EPL clubs would the contraction in future TV deals and match day revenue should this happen not threaten insolvency for many remaining EPL clubs?

Also the ownership percentages listed in the article would cement a financial advantage for the Spanish clubs.

So it's confirmed, UEL was too crowded and will be split up.
'Europa League 2': Uefa confirms new tournament from 2021
This could be a first step to revamping UCL at the same time, to make it between only 16 or 24 teams per year so those super league pricks can getcthe exclusivity they wanted.
Actually think this is quite a good move. It will make the Europa League much, much better in terms of the quality of side involved which will make it a far more attractive and valuable competition. No more constant Thursday night specials in Kazakhstan, the North Pole etc.

only downside is it makes it harder for clubs in smaller countries (Scandinavian ones for example) to realistically work their way to a spot in the CL.

Why is that? Every countries champions still go in the CL qualification, it just means the others get into EUL2 rather than EUL1 and its very unlikely they would win the Europa League to qualify of the CL anyway. It does mean they stand a chance of winning the EUL2 however and actually win pan European games.

the ECA proposed a revamped CL with automatic qualification for the history clubs. It sounds like a bastard hellspawn between the superleague they wanted and some compromises from UEFA.
But it seems the PL, FA, and at least the German league would resist it.
Juventus are leading the drive, to me it sounds like they and Barca and Real are the key drivers.

Premier League clubs reject Champions League revamp, 'unanimously agreeing to protect' top flight

A 14 game group stage with the winners pitching straight to the semis (sounds similar to one of the old formats) would still result in 4 additional games. That's probably the PL's other big sticker - they'd need to downsize the league (lower revenue) or else the FA would see pretty much the CL teams playing their U21's right the way through the cups.

The historic club was really driven by Milan over the last few years, the weekend games /Super league are being driven by Juve as they are aware they cannot get anywhere near EPL revenues in the Italian league system.

aha yes AC Milan - they screwed up their finances so now they want to rig the competition to regain their past glory.
Imagine Aston Villa and Sunderland demanding an automatic promotion and then to never get relegated along with Everton and Newcastle. Or wanting a fast track straight to FA Cup round 5.

we could call it the MLS.

“Historic clubs”

What an absolute joke.

The European Club Association has set out potentially explosive plans to revamp the Champions League to include more matches and some form of promotion and relegation when the agreed format and football calendar concludes in 2024.

The ECA and Juventus chairman, Andrea Agnelli, spelled out the principles informing the top clubs’ push to reshape European football in a letter inviting all the ECA’s 232 clubs to discuss them at a special general assembly in Malta on 6 and 7 June.

Juve are driving this rather than sorting out their own league to compete - hope it gets a fuck off it deserves, as I hope they fuck off Saturday CL games or at least play EPL games up against them.
