My point is that ENIC's strategy is to assemble a squad that is capable of Europa League with the possibility of flirting with the Champions League, but not getting into a relegation scrap. The most important aspect of this is to keep the overall wage bill at a level that allows Levy to pay himself 10 million a year.

What they don't want is an inflated overall wage bill to pursue trophies with a squad of players on decent wages.

A decent, under payed starting 11, like we had with Poch, is as good as it gets with ENIC.

"In February, the Telegraph reported that Levy was paid a salary of £3.265m as Spurs chairman in 2022 - up £500,000 from the previous 12 months. However, that is significantly less than the overall £7m he pocketed four years ago. That sum included a £3m bonus for overseeing the construction of the club’s current home ground, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which opened in April 2019 after costing £1bn to build."

That he's the highest paid chairman in the league notwithstanding, these bonuses are not extraordinary for head executives.

I wanted a regime enthusiast to correct my embellishment.

It's important to get facts right.

I also love the fact that you highlighted Levy being the best paid chairman in the Premier League but added the caveat;

" these bonuses are not extraordinary for head executives".

Totally justified then?

I thought you were saying he had Southampton in a relegation fight.

Nope. He was good at Southampton. Improved players, got the best out of them and played young players. Could argue he laid the foundations for future managers because Koeman went there and bettered anything Pochettino ever managed there.

Sort of manager we could do with now, regardless of their name value. Ange mostly ticks those boxes. So did Slot. So does Nagelsmann. It's a shame we didn't get Slot through, not going to be upset with Ange. Because of the state we find ourselves in, he's someone we could do with in all honesty.

It's about getting the right fit for the club right now.

I like Ange better than Slot. He’s a disciple of JDP and you can see well worked transitions and combinations when his teams attack. Very different to managers like Gerrard and Lennon who won the Scottish League before just by getting it into forwards who were so much better than 99% of their opponents in Scotland.

Thing is, before the stadium that was fine.

Most Spurs fans would have accepted that was the reality that Poch inherited and build a team that massively over achieved.

Now Levy has the stadium and unfortunately for him, Poch raised the expectations of what was possible. If the club wants to continue progressing instead of regressing, his whole concept of wage bill structure and transfer budgets may not cut it.

If the club could really build the academy and give the football philosophy a real identity, i,e., Dortmund, maaaaaybe it could work.
